About the role
Reporting to the Senior Counsel, Commercial, you will develop and deliver advice to our global Commercial, Consumer Revenue and Finance teams, with a particular focus on media and digital advertising deals, custom and branded content and services deals and consumer revenue generating transactions and regulatory compliance.
You will be asked to support the Senior Counsel, Commercial in the delivery of legal advice and support to our advertising and consumer sales, revenue, marketing, advertising operations and consumer leaders. More specifically, the purpose of your role is to help our global teams deliver their deals, resolve issues arising from these, advise on compliance related to consumer and revenue matters and build long term client relationships.
What you will do:
Support the Commercial team on legal issues relating to the sale of advertising, with a focus on media and digital advertising and custom and branded content and services, across digital, print, video, social and experiential, including, for example, agreements for traditional and programmatic advertising, talent agreements, competitions and giveaways, non-disclosure agreements, sponsorships, events/activations, product placement and editorial sponsorships.
Support the development of standard documents for revenue generating activities and work with commercial colleagues to ensure that agreed processes are being followed.
Draft clear and consistent templates and standard terms and conditions for new media, custom and branded initiatives and talent deals.
Negotiate standard terms with advertising agencies.
Support the Consumer Revenue teams on legal issues related to marketing and consumer-facing revenue producing activities, including, for example, subscription products and e-commerce.
Provide training and advice regarding CAP codes and ASA guidance, including requirements applicable to social media influencers.
Interpret and advise on Conde Nast’s Global Advertising Guidelines and their application to specific proposed campaigns.
Liaise and coordinate with colleagues handling production elements of branded content deals and events and develop workflows to maximise communication, alignment and efficiency.
Work closely with our Data Privacy lawyers on issues relating to data use.
Work closely with other lawyers in the wider Global Legal & Policy team to manage and deliver day-to-day corporate advice to the Finance teams.
Support corporate secretarial workstreams.
Support the delivery and management of project based real estate advice.
Manage outside counsel where appropriate and necessary.
Keep up to date with relevant legal and regulatory updates with a particular focus on consumer laws relating to subscriptions.
Who you are:
Legally qualified in England & Wales with 0-2 years post qualification experience.
Strong experience in commercial contracts gained either in private practice or in an in-house role in a similar sector to Conde Nast. Additional experience in IP law is preferred.
Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
Ability to present legal advice in a pragmatic, problem solving and commercial fashion.
Confident, self starter who welcomes the opportunity presented in developing strong relationships.
Positive “can do” attitude and willingness to work flexibly and as part of a new and evolving team that is itself operating in a business and sector going through change.
