ABOUT US

Mountaintop is a new game studio creating multiplayer games for players who crave a challenge. We’re an independent, remote-first studio primarily located in the US and Canada.

We’re creating the types of games that bring people together — and keep them together for “just one more round.” The types of games that inspired us as kids. The games that become our hobbies, and sometimes our obsessions.

Games are a reflection of the teams that make them. So to make the best games, we’re building a studio that puts the team first — one that's collaborative, anti-crunch, diverse, and inclusive.

We’d love for you to join us.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Principal Technical Designer who’s passionate about designing, implementing, and balancing (Hero) equipment kits within a game. This position will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that equipment kits enhance gameplay, contribute to player progression, and align with the overall creative vision of the project. You’ll play a crucial role in bringing our first title to life.

YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

    • Developing fresh game mechanics and ability sets that effectively serve player needs, then bring them to life in-game
    • Preparing comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, guidelines, and technical requirements for ability kits that drive clarity across different teams
    • Rapidly iterate on prototypes of your designs based on feedback from internal and external playtesting, and help create tools and standards to improve that process.
    • Provide ongoing oversight of designs throughout the development cycle, ensuring they’re meeting goals from inception through live updates
    • Contributing to a team culture that prides itself on excellence, innovation, trust, and respect

ABOUT YOU

    • A love for playing and making amazing games
    • Experience creating prototypes via programming and scripting (e.g. Lua, Squirrel, C#, Javascript)
    • A minimum of 6 years of design experience, including at least one shipped title
    • Self-motivated and eager to contribute in many different areas of development
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience working on networked games
    • Excited by taking risks and learning through experimentation
    • Ability to thrive in a remote environment
