What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on

Designing, implementing, and refining machine learning models to deliver personalized recommendations.
Optimizing the existing code structure and enhancing the performance of our machine learning systems.
Investigating research papers and state-of-the-art machine learning models and see how they can be applied at Canva.
Conducting online and offline experiments to validate model performance and make data-driven adjustments to optimize outcomes.
Ensuring seamless integration and performance across our technology stack - machine learning models with our backend code,
Collaborating closely with product and engineering teams to integrate and deploy new recommendation features and enhancements.
Documenting work and communicating findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to support strategic decision-making.

You're probably a match if

You are an experienced Machine Learning Engineer who excels at applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems. You should be adept at designing and refining recommendation systems, comfortable working with large datasets, and skilled in programming and statistical analysis.
You have proven experience in developing and optimising machine learning models, especially in the context of recommendation systems.
You have proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and experience with data analysis and machine learning libraries such as PyTorch, pandas, scikit-learn, numpy.
You have strong analytical skills, with experience in evaluating model performance and making data-driven improvements.
You have excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
You have a collaborative mindset and a passion for working with cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals.

Canva is full of AI-powered magic, but our ML-powered Recommendations may very well be the most-used machine-learning system at Canva. Serving over one hundred million users every month, our recommendations help Canva users find exactly what they’re looking for before they know they’re looking for it, so these recommendations have to be on point. We are always working with cutting-edge technology, reading new research papers, and running dramatic experiments to improve our recommender systems.
