Communications Specialist II – Graphic Design
POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of our growing Creative team, the chosen candidate will work to support our mission of bringing our internal and external departments’ marketing strategies to life through graphic design, visual branding, and personalized service. Strong candidates will have experience collaborating across teams and possess solid skills in project management, client communication, and quality assurance.
Candidates must have a strong professional portfolio, an understanding of design history and theory, the aptitude to articulate design ideas through professional practice and personal research, and an interest in community and department service. They must also demonstrate experience and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Understand the needs of our departments and support their goals through strategic visual communications.
Develop creative assets for Mecklenburg County campaigns, including illustrations, print materials, photos, static and animated graphics, videos, digital, email, and social media content.
Participate in brainstorming sessions and support the team with creative tasks.
Collaborate with other creatives and team members to ensure the coherence of the customer's journey.
Create, maintain, and update internal tools such as directories, stationery, corporate documents, and templates.
Assist in creative presentations and communicate creative solutions.
Coordinate with vendors to produce organization merchandise, swag, and office stationery.
Ensure all creative work aligns with brand style guidelines across all platforms.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of public relations, communications, or related experience.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communication or related field.
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of graphic fundamentals, layouts, typography, print, and web standard processes
Portfolio of creative work, preferably highlighting campaigns; personal projects with well thought-out storytelling
Experience with both print and digital media
Proficient in proofreading/reviewing content
