As a Compositor (Stereo Elements Artist) at DNEG, you'll collaborate closely with Leads to assess creative and technical approaches for assigned shots. You will be responsible for solving visual and analytical problems to ensure asset breakdowns meet quality standards. Working with the production team, Compositing Supervisor, and Stereographer, you'll create supplemental stereo elements using proprietary techniques in Nuke. This involves breaking down completed VFX scripts into components for conversion teams. All work is 2D, but requires foundational stereoscopic depth understanding. Problem-solving skills within Nuke are essential. The role demands proficiency in Nuke, knowledge of projection, CG integration, keying, clean-up, and a basic understanding of 3D multi-pass workflows, Deep, color space, Nuke expressions, and plate distortion. A strong showreel showcasing high-quality VFX work is required.
Must have:
  • 1-2 years VFX Compositing experience or equivalent education
  • Proficient in Nuke
  • Knowledge of projection, CG integration, keying, and clean-up
  • Understanding of 3D workflows, Deep, color space, Nuke expressions and plate distortion
  • High-quality VFX showreel
Good to have:
  • Stereoscopic Compositing experience
  • VFX-related Arts or Sciences degree
  • Experience in other VFX areas

Chez DNEG, les compositeurs travaillent de près avec les principaux gestionnaires des départements à l’évaluation des approches créatives et techniques des plans attitrés et à la résolution de problèmes visuels et analytiques dans le but de compléter l’analyse des atouts et de s’assurer que ceux-ci soient conformes aux normes établies.

Travaillant avec l’équipe de la production, le superviseur à la composition d’images et le stéréographe, vous créerez des éléments stéréo additionnels à l’aide de techniques de décomposition et d’extraction exclusives. Avec Nuke, vous décomposerez des scénarios d’effets visuels complétés en différents composants, les préparant ainsi pour nos équipes attitrées à la conversion. Tout le travail est en 2D, mais nécessite des connaissances de base en profondeur stéréoscopique. D’abord et avant tout, les artistes aux éléments doivent avoir un fort intérêt à résoudre des problèmes dans Nuke ! 

 

Qualifications

  • 1 à 2 années d’expérience en composition d’effets visuels ou d’une scolarité équivalente à ce niveau, comme un certificat ou un diplôme provenant d’un programme/établissement reconnu.
  • Compétences avec Nuke.
  • Connaissances des techniques de projection, d’intégration infographique, d’incrustation et de retouche de plan.
  • Compréhension de base des flux de travail 3D à passages multiples, de Deep, de l’espace colorimétrique, du lexique de Nuke et de la déformation de plan.
  • Bande démo présentant un travail d’effets visuels de grande qualité.

 

Atouts 

  • Expérience en composition d’images stéréoscopique.
  • Cours en Arts ou Sciences (reliés aux effets visuels) complété dans le cadre d’une éducation formelle.
  • Expérience avec d’autres aspects des effets visuels, différents de la composition d’images.

  • Vous êtes rapide, efficace et êtes capable de travailler avec des échéances serrées et très peu de supervision.
  • Vous êtes capable de travailler en collaboration avec d’autres compositeurs et avez la volonté de partager vos connaissances et vos techniques.
  • Vous êtes organisé et avez de fortes compétences en communications, écrite et orale.
  • Vous avez un œil très développé pour les détails. 
  • Vous avez un amour pour Nuke et un grand intérêt à résoudre des problèmes techniques !

Pour le CANADA : Veuillez noter qu'il s'agit d'un poste syndiqué et qu'il sera couvert par une convention collective entre DNEG et IATSE dans les mois à venir. En tant qu'employé syndiqué, vous devrez adhérer au syndicat et bénéficierez des conditions énoncées dans la convention collective. Compositors at DNEG work closely with Leads to evaluate the creative and technical approaches to assigned shots, performing visual and analytical problem solving to complete asset breakdown to established quality standards.

Working with the Production team, Compositing Supervisor, and Stereographer, you will create supplemental stereo elements using proprietary breakdown and extraction techniques. Using Nuke, you will break down completed VFX scripts into their component parts, preparing them for our conversion teams. All work is 2D, but requires basic knowledge of stereoscopic depth. First and foremost, elements artists need a keen interest in technical problem solving within Nuke! 

 

Must Have

  • 1-2 years VFX Compositing experience or equivalent education, such as a Certificate or Diploma from an accredited program/institution
  • Proficient in Nuke
  • Knowledge of projection, CG integration, keying, and clean-up techniques
  • Basic understanding of 3D multi-pass workflows, Deep, colour space, Nuke expressions and plate distortion
  • Showreel demonstrating high quality VFX work

 

Nice to Have 

  • Experience in Stereoscopic Compositing
  • Completion of a formal education course in Arts or Sciences (VFX related)
  • Experience with other aspects of VFX, outside of compositing

  • Fast and efficient, with ability to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to collaborate with other compositors and the willingness to share knowledge & techniques
  • Organised, with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong eye for detail 
  • And unending love of Nuke and a strong interest in technical problem solving!

 For CANADA : Please note that this is a unionized position and will be covered by a collective agreement between DNEG and IATSE, in the coming months. As a unionized employee, you will be required to join the union and will benefit from the conditions set out in the collective agreement. Union dues will be required once the collective agreement is in place.
