Job Description

As a Radar Staff Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and optimize radar software for autonomous aircraft, ensuring safe operation in urban environments. Responsibilities include developing software for lab, RF, and flight testing, creating new radar capabilities, collaborating with engineers on interfaces, optimizing performance, participating in code reviews, and generating lifecycle artifacts. You will work on a DO-178C RTOS and CI/CD environment and contribute to enhancements aligned with RTCA DO-366B MOPS for traffic surveillance. This role involves working within the CD&R team and Autoflight & Navigation team within the Autonomy & Airspace Integrated Product Team.
Must have:
  • US Person authorized to work on ITAR and Export Controlled Technology
  • 8+ years experience in Software Engineering or related discipline
  • C/C++ programming experience with GNU Toolchain
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Familiarity with aviation sensors (ADS-B, GPS, INS)
  • Hands-on experience with embedded systems development
  • Developing Software Architecture
  • Developing Requirements
  • Performing Hardware / Software Integration
Good to have:
  • Strong background in digital signal processing
  • Experience with safety-critical software

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Radar Software Engineer to join our Conflict Detection & Resolution (CD&R) team. In this critical role, you will design, develop, and optimize the radar software system that is fundamental to the safe operation of our fully autonomous Gen6 eVTOL aircraft, while operating in an urban air-mobility environment. 

This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View, CA office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days. 

What you will do:

    • You will develop software scripts to support lab testing, RF field testing, flight testing and environmental testing of radars and related components.
    • You will write new applications for additional radar capabilities (including: radar navigation, detection of terrain / ground obstacles and detection of local weather events)
    • You will collaborate with systems and hardware engineers to define and document the Interface Control Document (ICD) to define the radar system’s exterior I/O and Hardware / Software interfaces.
    • You will collaborate with hardware engineers to optimize radar system’s performance and integration.
    • You will collaborate with the Software Verification team to ensure the design requirements are testable and dry run their test benches to check out newly developed code. 
    • You will participate in code reviews, perform WCET (Worst-Case Execution Time) analysis, write / solve problem reports, maintain configuration control of the in-development design, maintain traceability of the design / documentation to the requirements and generate DO-178C life cycle artifacts.
    • You will support the Simulation team by exporting the software design into models they can use for Monte Carlo analysis and algorithms performance analysis. 
    • You will work closely with other software engineers to rehost the current design onto a DO-178C RTOS (real-time operating system) and into a CI/CD (Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery) development environment. 
    • You will collaborate with systems and simulation engineers to develop enhancements to the software design to meet the RTCA DO-366B Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) for the Traffic Surveillance Air-to-Air Radar. 
    • You will be a member of the CD&R team that is part of the larger Autoflight & Navigation team within the Autonomy & Airspace Integrated Product Team (IPT). 

Requirements:

    • Must be a US Person authorized to work on ITAR and Export Controlled Technology
    • A minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering (or related relevant engineering discipline), or 6 years of related experience with a Master’s degree in Software Engineering
    • C/C++ programming experience with the GNU Toolchain (gcc, gdb)
    • Experience with real time operating systems (RTOS), and other low-level C/C++ software
    • Familiarity with sensors used in the aviation industry, e.g., ADS-B, GPS, INS, radios, etc
    • Hands-on experience with real-time embedded systems: 
    • Developing Software Architecture
    • Developing Requirements 
    • Performing Hardware / Software Integration

$180,400 - $212,300 a year

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $180,400 - $212,300 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
