Job Description

The SMS Program Advisor will ensure the Safety Management System functions throughout the design, manufacturing, and testing processes for autonomous aircraft development, including flight tests and simulator activities. This hybrid role involves working onsite in Fremont three days a week. Responsibilities include conducting risk assessments, generating documentation, training team members, identifying areas for improvement, root cause analyses, and leading SMS activities. The position involves working independently across teams to leverage existing processes and build new ones to get the SMS approved by the regulator.
Must have:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent, preferably in engineering or aviation safety.
  • 8+ years of system level safety experience.
  • Experience in regulated environments (121, 135, airport, test etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in safety risk management and data visualizations.
  • Basic data analysis skills using python or visualization tools.
  • Experience influencing Safety Culture
  • Familiarity with principles of safe operations.

We are looking for an SMS Program Advisor to join our team. The goal of an SMS Program Advisor at Wisk is to ensure that the Safety Management System is developed and functions through the design, manufacturing and testing processes, to include flight test,  as well as test activities on rigs and simulators to support company programs. You will be part of the SMS team for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market. You will be an integral part of getting Wisk’s Safety Management System approved with the regulator. 

This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Fremont office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days. 

In this role you will be part of the SMS team for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market. You will be an integral part of getting Wisk’s Safety Management System approved with the regulator. The position will work independently among the testing, production and engineering teams, in partnership with EHS and Quality to identify existing processes that can be leveraged for SMS functions, and build new processes when and where required.  There will be other duties as assigned to support building the foundation for more advanced SMS functions.  

What you will do:

    • Conduct risk assessments and  coaching subject matter experts in risk or hazard assessments across a wide cross section of tasks.
    • Generate clear and concise documentation and visualizations to govern and report on Safety Management System.
    • Train team members on SMS documentation in order to grow the safety culture within the company.
    • Identify areas of improvement in safety processes and can develop plans to enact the changes.
    • Discovering effective root cause analyses of events and incidents.  
    • Develop standardization of safety practices. 
    • You will lead Safety Management System Activities to implement and maintain an SMS across the OEM. 

Requirements:

    • Have a bachelors degree or equivalent, a plus if engineering or aviation safety field.  
    • At least 8 years system level safety experience. Flight or system test experience desired. Manufacturing, oil and gas, medical safety and other HRO safety experience will be considered.  
    • You have worked in regulated environments (121, 135, airport, test etc.)
    • You have hands-on experience in safety risk management, internal safety communications and data visualizations. 
    • You have at least basic data analysis skills using python or visualization tools.
    • You have experience influencing Safety Culture
    • You are familiar with principles of safe operations in a high consequence environment. 
$143,784 - $169,158 a year

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $143,784 - $169,158 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
