Job Description

Requirements Engineer - Submarines

Full Time / Part Time

Why Rolls-Royce?

Rolls-Royce Submarines Limited (RRSL) designs, manufactures and provides through-life support for the nuclear reactors that power the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet.  These reactors are controlled from each vessel’s Manoeuvring Room.  RRSL is embarking upon an exciting new project to produce Manoeuvring Room Training facilities to be used to train the Dreadnought Class crews on the operation of the next-generation nuclear reactor, PWR3.  RRSL will deliver two Manoeuvring Room Trainers (MRTs) into the Royal Navy Submarine Training Centre (RNSTC) in Faslane and potentially additional classroom-based Part Task Trainers (PTTs).  Delivery includes design, assurance, manufacture, transport, installation, commissioning and handover.

Work with us and we’ll welcome you into an inclusive culture, one that invests in your continuous learning and development, and gives you access to a wide breadth and depth of experience.

This role provides a unique opportunity for an individual to help shape a project across the product’s lifecycle; from concept to in-service.  It will enable a broad range of skills to be exercised, including requirements management, supply chain management, devising and implementing V&V strategies and overseeing some logistics.  The role will have outward facing elements and the successful candidate will be expected to interact with supply chain and customers.

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discount

Your needs are as unique as you are. We encourage flexible working arrangements and support hybrid working wherever possible, so you can always be at your best - wherever and whenever you work.

What you will be doing:

This exciting role will involve:

  • Applying Systems Thinking.  Establishing context, hierarchy, and lifecycle of systems. Seeing and defining the whole system, its purpose and functions.
  • Decomposing and managing requirements.  Analysing stakeholder needs and converting into a comprehensive requirement set.  Structure and manage full system requirements information (including interfaces).  Produce and execute V&V strategies.
  • Collaborating.  Contribute effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team that spans RRSL, the supply chain and the customer.  Interpret and communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Delivering.  Supporting the team to meet the contractual milestones, including successfully passing PILM gates that span concept definition through to product handover.

Who we’re looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do.  These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of:

  • The application of system engineering principles.
  • Requirements management processes and tools.
  • Requirements decomposition and substantiation through the PILM process stages / CADMID cycle.
  • Interface management with customers and/or suppliers.
  • Working at pace to deliver solutions.
  • Experience of DOORS desirable

We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
