The Role 

The Security Manager, WBD Sports Productions International, is based in Brazil and part of the WBD Sports Security team that ensures the appropriate risk, safety, and security mitigation measures are in place for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Sports International networks, with particular focus on Latin America. This team sits within the wider WBD International Security Team and WBD Global Security. The WBD Sports Security team plans and implements security measures and leads security incident response for WBD Sports across WBD International. This position reports to and works closely with, the Director of Security, WBD Sports International.  

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Act as a liaison between WBD Global Security and WBD Sports Productions in Latin America. This will mean building professional and effective working relationships with key stakeholders in WBD Sports Productions in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico.
  • Assist in security management processes and delivery for productions from the WBD Sports in the Latin America team. While WBD Sports in Latin America primarily comprises of sports productions originating from TNT Sport in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico, there are also sports productions by Eurosport and WBD Sports Events that take place in Latin America. This may include (but is not limited to):  
    • Develop security tracking processes for all sports verticals and their teams.
    • Manage and own administrative procedures and updates for security at WBD Sports Productions in Latin America.
    • Ensure WBD Global Security standards, processes, and procedures are appropriately applied to WBD Sports productions in Latin America. Assess and categorize all sports productions in Latin America to ensure they correct security support is applied.
    • Consult with and guide WBD Sports production managers on all matters related to security. Ensure security is a key part of the planning and delivery for all WBD Sports productions in Latin America.
    • Assist with the high-risk deployment approval process. 
    • Brief deploying staff.
    • Coordinate with other WBD Global Security teams deployed to WBD Sports productions. 
    • Coordinate vendor security support. 
    • Work closely with health & safety teams at productions. 
    • Act as a liaison with event coordinators, stadium and venue staff, and local security personnel.  
    • Monitor and respond to issues/incidents involving WBD Sports productions.
    • Arrange and manage WBD equipment or asset security needs related to WBD Sports productions in Latin America.    
  • Manage a range of ad-hoc and permanent security contractors from various vendors in different countries. Ensure WBD has the right security contractors, deployed to right venues or locations, delivering the right security services, in the right way, and at the most cost-effective price for sports productions in Latin America.
  • Be available to deploy to productions or offices in both low and high-risk locations. While deployed, act as the security team supervisor or team member wherever the WBD Sports Productions will be and require security, as assessed using the team tiering system. This will be to oversee the contractor’s security and to also deliver security services, as required.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of safety and security at WBD Sports Events when they are in Latin America. These events are productions that are wholly owned by WBD and as such carry a greater degree of safety and security responsibility; on occasion, WBD can even be the local organising committee. This will may include (but is not limited to):
    • Liaison with local authorities, police, and other emergency services.
    • Understand crowd dynamics security flows, working with production teams to plan for these elements safely and effectively while maintaining the television product.
    • Write and approve effective safety and security plans.
    • Deploy onsite and manage the event when live including overseeing local security vendors.
    • Manage equipment security controls for the event.
    • Coordinate with WBD production staff and other WBD Global Security in both planning and delivery.
  • Assist with security planning and delivery of European TV production security services for the Olympics. WBD Sports currently holds broadcasting rights for all Olympic Games until Brisbane 2032.

Required Experience/Qualifications 

  • In-depth sports security experience. 
  • Experience managing staff and working with security contractors.
  • An understanding of global threats and risks and how they may impact WBD business operations. 
  • An understanding of the balance between business needs and security in a media company. 
  • Ability to build and manage relationships and instil confidence with WBD executives and business partners at all levels and in all cultures. 
  • Prepared to travel depending on the business needs. 
  • Prepared to work extended hours, sometimes at short notice, to assist in responding to an incident. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
  • Has the right to work in Brazil. 

Desirable qualifications 

  • Degree educated. 
  • Security qualifications including close/executive protection experience.
  • Finance and budget experience.
