Job Description

The Senior DBA Consultant will be responsible for providing remote database administration for production OpenEdge deployments. This includes supporting multiple customer deployments, troubleshooting and resolving technical database issues, providing monthly reports, and delivering backend project work such as database health checks, implementing OpenEdge database features, platform migrations, and maintenance items. The consultant will work with a team, participate in on-call duties, and help customers succeed in their business by managing their databases.

Must have:

10 years experience with OpenEdge databases
2 years experience with Pro2 Replication in LAN/WAN
Experience with UNIX/Linux and Windows platforms
Shell Scripting on UNIX/Linux
Windows Batch scripting and CLI
Passion to resolve technical issues
Excellent communication skills, written and oral

Good to have:

5 years experience as a remote OpenEdge database administrator
5 years experience as an OpenEdge consultant
JDK/JRE frameworks and Tomcat implementations
Progress SQL92 and middleware solutions
Experience with n-tier environments

Join us as a Senior Database Administrator for our Managed Database Administration Service group and help us do what we do best: propelling business forward.  This is a role that will be done remotely from your home office in the United States.

Helping our customers succeed in their business by providing remote database administration tasks for their production OpenEdge deployments. You will be the expert for our MDBA accounts and their business continuity and high availability policies. That’s a great opportunity to work with the largest and most senior team in the OpenEdge database ecosystem, supporting the largest managed database service in the industry.

In this role, you will:

Support multiple customer deployments as their Primary Database Administrator
Support the team with a periodic on-call duty, currently every tenth day
Troubleshoot and resolve technical OpenEdge database issues as they come in
Provide monthly reports for your customers
Deliver backend related project work for Progress customer base, such as:
- Database Health Checks
- Implement OpenEdge Database Features like OE Replication, TDE, Auditing, etc.
- Platform migrations and/or upgrades for deployed OpenEdge environments
- Perform maintenance items like Dump and Load, implementing After Imaging, Type II conversion, etc.

Your background:

Minimum 10 years’ experience with OpenEdge databases
Minimum 2 years’ experience with Pro2 Replication product in LAN and WAN environments
Experience with both UNIX/Linux and Windows platforms
Shell Scripting on UNIX/Linux
Windows Batch scripting and CLI
A passion to help customers resolve technical issues
Familiar with various problem analysis and troubleshooting methodologies
Excellent communication skills, both orally and written

Additionally, it would be beneficial if you have:

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a remote OpenEdge database administrator
Minimum 5 years’ experience as an OpenEdge consultant
JDK/JRE frameworks and Tomcat implementations
Progress SQL92 and middleware solutions, e.g. DataServers for MSSQL or Oracle
Experience with n-tier environments involving both Progress Classic AppServer and PASOE
