Job Description

Haven Studios, based in Montreal, is seeking an experienced Senior Rigger to bring motion to characters and objects. The Senior Rigger will skin and rig characters and creatures, collaborate with art and animation teams, set and refine character parameters and simulation, collaborate with modelers for troubleshooting, and balance artistic and technical aspects. The role requires understanding technical constraints and iterating based on feedback. The studio is a hybrid environment promoting flexibility and collaboration. The first game, Fairgames, is in development for PlayStation and PC.
Must have:
  • 3+ years of experience as a Character Rigger/Skinner.
  • Participated in at least one full AAA video game production.
  • Understanding of animation principles.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
Good to have:
  • Experience working with Unreal.
  • Knowledge of multiplayer game constraints.
  • Knowledge of customization in games.
  • Knowledge of Maya and Blender is an asset.

Haven Studios est un studio de développement de jeux vidéo basé à Montréal. En mai 2021, nous nous sommes embarqués dans un voyage pour créer Haven en tant que petite équipe avec de grandes ambitions. Notre objectif était de bâtir un studio composé de personnes exceptionnelles où, ensemble, nous pourrions créer le genre de jeux que nous avons toujours voulu créer - des jeux auxquels nous avons toujours souhaité jouer. Chez Haven, nous pensons que la bienveillance, l'adaptabilité et un optimisme sans faille permettent d'atteindre l'excellence créative. Haven a rejoint la famille PlayStation Studios en tant que première équipe de développement de jeux Sony au Canada en 2022.

 

Nous avons fait des progrès étonnants en peu de temps grâce à notre équipe talentueuse et passionnée et à ses excellentes contributions. Notre premier jeu, Fairgames, est en cours de développement pour PlayStation et PC. Fairgames est un jeu d'action et de braquage multijoueur compétitif dont la vision est de construire un monde systémique et évolutif axé sur la liberté, le frisson et le jeu, qui divertira et engagera les joueur·euse·s pour les années à venir.



 

Poste - Rigger

Nous recherchons un·e Rigger expérimenté·e pour aider à donner du mouvement à nos personnages et nos objets grâce à des déformations réalistes et des rigs intuitifs. Nous nous inspirons de références du monde réel pour développer une nouvelle propriété intellectuelle.


 

Reporting

Le·a Rigger relèvera du·de la Producteur·rice.

 

Responsabilités et tâches

  •  Skinner et riguer divers personnages humains et créatures.

  • Comprendre les contraintes techniques de l'équipe de développement.

  • Collaborer avec les équipes artistiques et d'animation pour comprendre la vision du jeu et les implications du skinning et du rigging.

  • Définir et affiner les paramètres des personnages et des objets, et la simulation dans le moteur.

  • Collaborer avec les modélisateur·rice·s de personnages pour dépanner les modèles en cas de besoin.

  • Trouver un équilibre entre les aspects artistiques et les contraintes techniques avec l'aide de la direction technique.

  • Itérer en fonction des commentaires de la direction technique. 


 

Qualifications recherchées

  • Plus de 3 ans d'expérience dans l'industrie du jeu en tant que Character Rigger/Skinner.

  • Doit avoir participé à la production d'au moins un jeu vidéo AAA complet sur les consoles actuelles.

  • Une bonne compréhension de l'anatomie humaine et des expressions faciales est un atout.

  • Compréhension des principes d'animation.

  • Esprit de collaboration, de créativité et d'innovation.

  • Excellentes aptitudes à la communication, à l'autogestion et à l'organisation.


 

Qualifications souhaitées

  • Expérience de travail avec Unreal.

  • Connaissance des contraintes des jeux multi-joueurs.

  • Connaissance de la personnalisation dans les jeux.

  • La connaissance de Maya et Blender est un atout.

  • Une bande démo et un portfolio en ligne qui démontrent des compétences exceptionnelles en matière de création de contrôles de mouvement pour l'animation, de déformation complexe et de skinning du corps et du visage de personnages et de créatures.

Fairgames is a competitive multiplayer action heist with a vision to build a systemic and evolving world focused on freedom, thrill and playfulness that will entertain and engage players for years to come. 


 

Position - Senior Rigger

 

We are looking for an experienced Rigger to help bring motion to our characters and objects through realistic deformation and intuitive rigs. Taking inspiration from real world reference to help develop a new IP.


Reporting

The Senior Rigger will report to the Producer.
 

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Skin and rig various human characters and creatures.

  • Understand the development team’s technical constraints.

  • Collaborate with art and animation teams to understand the game vision and  skinning and rigging implications.

  • Set and refine character and object parameters and simulation in the engine.

  • Collaborate with character modelers to troubleshoot models when need be.

  • Balance between artistic aspects and technical constraints with the help of technical directors.

  • Iterate based on director feedback.


 

Skills required

  • 3+ year of game industry experience as a Character Rigger/Skinner.

  • Must have participated in at least one full AAA video game production on current consoles.

  • Good understanding of Human Anatomy and facial expression is an asset.

  • Understanding of animation principles.

  • A highly collaborative, creative, and innovative spirit.

  • Strong communication, self-management, and organizational skills.


 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Unreal.

  • Knowledge of multiplayer game constraints.

  • Knowledge of customization in games.

  • Knowledge of Maya and Blender is an asset.

  • A demo reel and online portfolio that demonstrates exceptional skills creating motion controls for animation, complex deformation and skinning of body and face of characters and creatures.
