As a Senior Software Engineer in Google's Open Source Security team, you'll work across GOSST, MOSS, and ISE to rebuild and enhance signal generation capabilities for software packages and ecosystems. You'll focus on building infrastructure for findings, creating dashboards for human review, and automating interventions for bugs. Responsibilities include writing and testing code, participating in design reviews, reviewing code from other developers, and triaging/resolving product or system issues. This role requires strong software development skills in languages like Golang, Python, C++, Java, or JavaScript, experience in security engineering and open-source development, and a deep understanding of data structures and algorithms. You'll work to improve the security of Google's and Google Cloud Platform's open-source dependencies.
Must have:
  • 5+ years software development experience
  • Experience with testing, maintaining, or launching software
  • Proficiency in Golang, Python, C++, Java, or JavaScript
  • Data structures and algorithms expertise
  • Software design and architecture experience
Good to have:
  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science
  • Experience with accessible technologies
  • Open-source software development experience
  • Core infrastructure, enterprise, and cloud tech experience
  • Security engineering, computer/network security knowledge

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Golang, Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript) and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies and with open-source software development.
  • Experience with core infrastructure, enterprise, and cloud technologies.
  • Experience in, and technical knowledge of, security engineering, computer and network security, authentication and security protocols, and applied cryptography.

In this role, you will work across Google Open Source Security Team (GOSST), Managed Open Source Software (MOSS), Information Security Engineering (ISE) and COE to drive the rebuild and signal generation capability over the packages and ecosystems with the most impact to Google and Google Cloud Platform. You will focus on building out necessary rebuilding infrastructure and findings to be made available for both human review (i.e. dashboards), bugs (e.g., drive action on, third-party owner, product team via AutoVM infrastructure, ect.) or automated intervention.

We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
