Job Description

The Senior Texture Artist at ILM is responsible for creating high-quality textures, colors, and surface details for CG creatures, hard-surface models (ships, vehicles, environments), and other assets used in feature animation and VFX productions. This role requires collaboration with the production team (VFX Supervisor, Texture Supervisor, Look Dev Supervisor), independent work on complex models, participation in design solutions, daily feedback sessions, and mentoring junior/mid-level artists. The ideal candidate possesses at least 5 years of professional VFX experience (7 years in lieu of a degree), proficiency in Maya, Mari, ZBrush, Photoshop, and UV unwrapping, and strong attention to detail. Additional skills in modeling, grooming, look development, Katana, and Houdini are a plus.

Job Description:

This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.

Position Summary

We are looking for a phenomenal teammate to join our Texture team. The Senior Texture Artist is responsible for creating the textures, colours, and organic surface qualities needed in the completion of CG creatures and hard-surface models used in production.

What You’ll Do

  • Works independently and with production team (VFX Supervisor, Texture Supervisor, Look Dev Supervisor) at an advanced level to implement the desired look of complicated CG models, including complex creatures and/or hard surface models, including ships, real world vehicles and environments
  • Participates as a team member in determining various design solutions; provides feedback to other members of the production by attending dailies on a regular basis
  • Mentors junior and mid-level Artists
  • Maintains or exceeds consistent level of productivity while meeting scheduled targets and producing high quality work

What We’re Looking For

  • At least five years of relevant professional VFX experience and at least a college level diploma or higher in computer graphics, fine arts, design, or photography, or related field; OR at least seven years of relevant professional VFX experience in lieu of education
  • Proficient in Maya, Mari, Zbrush, Photoshop and UV unwrapping tools
  • Ability to navigate complex pipelines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly and assimilate new information
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Modeling, Groom, and Look Development knowledge are pluses
  • Katana and Houdini experience are pluses

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C110,600 to C$141,500 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
