This Software Engineer III role at Google's Pixel Camera team involves developing sustainable AI/ML methods for on-device autofocus applications. Responsibilities include developing and deploying server-side models, building data pipelines, optimizing models for on-device deployment, creating evaluation plans, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have experience in computer vision, machine learning, and relevant programming languages (Python, C++). The role focuses on improving autofocus through techniques like detection, segmentation, tracking, depth estimation, and saliency, and exploring Generative AI use cases. Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent
  • 2+ years Python & C++ experience
  • 2+ years experience in Computer Vision & ML
  • Object-oriented programming expertise
  • Develop & deploy AI/ML models
  • Optimize models for on-device deployment
Good to have:
  • Android app/framework development
  • TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX proficiency
  • Experience with Generative AI

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent related practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with Python and C++.
  • 2 years of experience with object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms in an academic or industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience in computer vision and machine learning, or research achievements in the field of computational photography (e.g., product ownership, publications).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Android app or framework development.
  • Proficiency in TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustainable AI/ML methods to solve key problems in autofocus for on-device applications, such as detection, segmentation, tracking, depth estimation, and saliency.
  • Train and deploy server-side models (e.g., convolutional neural network, transformers, etc.) for distillation and evaluation. Explore Generative AI use cases, such as auto-labeling.
  • Build data and evaluate pipelines for novel machine learning problems. Optimize and integrate machine learning models for on-device deployment. Create and execute end-to-end evaluation plan to ensure quality and robustness.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams on machine learning problems. Leverage and drive partner teams for integration, testing, and optimization. Communicate plans, progress, and results effectively for an audience with or without machine learning background.
