Job Description

This Staff Software Engineer role at Google Search focuses on reimagining the search experience. Responsibilities include building data solutions and pipelines using AI (LLMs, DNNs) to solve user-facing problems, collaborating with Product Managers and UX teams to implement new features and experiences at scale, developing new user interfaces and front-end components for the search results page, and building serving infrastructure to power new experiences with acceptable latency and capacity. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software development, data structures/algorithms, testing, launching software products, and software design and architecture. They will also possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
Experience with data structures/algorithms
5+ years testing & launching software
3+ years software design & architecture
Build data solutions/pipelines/algorithms leveraging AI
Develop new UI/front-end for search results
Build serving infrastructure at scale

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in Engineering or Computer Science
3+ years technical leadership experience
3+ years experience in cross-functional projects

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

Responsibilities

Build data solutions/pipelines/algorithms, leveraging AI (e.g., Large language models(LLMs), Deep neural network (DNNs)), focused at solving user-facing problems related to the Search experience (e.g., algorithms to suggest next steps for users).
Interface with Product Managers and UX team to conceive, and implement at scale new features and experiences that redesigns the current Search results page.
Develop new User Interfaces/front-end related to new features and capabilities for the Search results page.
Build serving infrastructure capable of powering new user experiences at scale at acceptable latency/capacity.
