Summary

Insomniac Games seeks a VFX Artist Intern (Undergraduate) to contribute to the creation of real-time visual effects for an AAA PS5 title. Responsibilities include crafting VFX that enhance gameplay and cinematic moments, collaborating with developers, debugging and troubleshooting VFX elements to ensure seamless functionality. The ideal candidate is a team player familiar with real-time game engines (Unity, Unreal) and DCC tools (Houdini, Maya, Photoshop, Substance). The internship runs for 12 weeks (May 19th - August 8th or June 16th - September 5th) with relocation assistance available for eligible candidates. Hourly pay is $33.25 - $40 USD.

About the Team:

Are you passionate about creating captivating visual effects for games? Insomniac Games is looking for a talented VFX Artist Intern to join our team! We’re searching for someone eager to pursue a career in game VFX, ready to learn all it takes to develop real-time visual effects that elevate gameplay and in-game cinematics, and can assist in debugging and troubleshooting during the development process.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Craft real-time visual effects that enhance gameplay and cinematic moments in an AAA PS5 title.

  • Collaborate closely with other developers, focusing on creating VFX that supports and enriches the game.

  • Debug and troubleshoot VFX elements to ensure they function seamlessly within the game.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university, pursuing a Bachelor's degree and projected to graduate by Spring 2026

  • A team-oriented mindset and familiarity with real-time game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal).

  • Experience with DCC tools such as Houdini, Maya, Photoshop, Substance, etc.

  • A strong portfolio/demo reel that demonstrates solid art and VFX fundamentals and showcases your skill in real-time work (required).

  • Technical skills in material/shader creation, node graphing, or scripting are a plus, though not essential.

  • Samples of past projects or relevant work.

Eligibility:

  • Able to work during one of the following periods: May 19th - August 8th or June 16th - September 5th.

  • Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

  • Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.
