About The Global Payment business (referred to as PIPO) provides an important role helping with the monetization of Bytedance products, but is also in the heavily regulated industry of payments and financial services, that requires a specific expertise and attention to regulatory compliance requirements. PIPO's Global Legal BP team reports directly into the Global Legal Compliance organization and serves PIPO's businesses as the generalists experts. The team is now expanding its capabilities with the purpose of serving as specialists for financial services other than payments. The ideal candidate will have a background in financial services (e.g. Buy Now Pay Later, lending, merchant financing, insurance, etc), payments and tech, as well as excellent judgment, acute ability to identify issues of first impression, and have the courage to counsel a fast-moving business. Responsibilities - Advise on a range of issues including financial services regulation (e.g. Consumer/merchant financing, purchase protection, etc), commercial, consumer protection, KYC, risk assessment/compliance related to the financial services businesses worldwide; - Structure, draft and negotiate a wide range of agreements with our various partners supporting the financial services businesses; - Actively collaborate with a wide variety of internal stakeholders, including product, engineering, compliance, marketing, business development, risk on a range of issues related to product development and commercialization of financial services products and services; - Work closely with colleagues across the global legal team to advise on general issues in connection with the launch of projects or programs in the destination countries/regions; - Help build scalable and effective processes for legal review and launch of new features and products; - Stay up-to-date and serve as the subject matter expert of financial service regulations, including AML, KYC and KYB and other anciliary topics related to financial services. - Participate as a proactive business partner for business leaders and build a trusted advisor relationship

Minimum Qualifications - Qualified lawyer with relevant experience, preferably across both private practice and in-house, with exposure in Technology, FinTech &/or Financial Services industries - Strong understanding of the financial services sector, including knowledge of compliance requirements such as consumer protection, anti-money laundering rules, know-your-customer requirements, etc. - Ability to navigate matters independently, demonstrate excellent judgment and decision-making capability with imperfect information. - Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and presentation skills. - Has initiative, a positive attitude, collaborative and a confident self-starter who thrives in a fast paced environment, deals well with ambiguity and focuses on driving impact; Preferred Qualifications - A passion for technology and the ability to understand complex business models and product use cases quickly - Experience supporting multiple markets in Asia, especially Southeast Asia - Independent, hard-working, well organized and able to prioritize and manage numerous projects simultaneously and the ability to work under tight deadlines. --- ByteDance is committed to creating an inclusive space where employees are valued for their skills, experiences, and unique perspectives.
