Summary

As a Core Engine Lead Programmer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the core technology behind Star Citizen's vast and dynamic universe. You will work closely with industry veterans to guide a team responsible for various core aspects of the game engine, ensuring the delivery of both Star Citizen and Squadron 42. Your responsibilities include defining the engine's future direction, providing technical leadership to the team, designing and implementing robust and efficient code, staying abreast of cutting-edge software engineering practices, identifying and mitigating technical risks, and collaborating with QA to resolve complex issues.

As a Core Engine Lead Programmer, you will work on the core technology that enables Star Citizen’s large-scale dynamic universe. Collaborating with industry veterans, you will guide a small team which works on multiple core aspects of the game engine to deliver Star Citizen and Squadron 42. 

You will join the team that is building our high-fidelity realtime 3D engine (StarEngine) and you will work and interact with designer, artists, and engineers from other disciplines such as physics, animation, and gameplay. 

Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games creates cutting-edge videogames that defy expectations. We’re currently developing Star Citizen, a record-breaking multiplayer online space sim, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure set in the same universe. What do our Core Engine Lead Programmers do? 

  • Work with the Engine Technical Director to define the next steps to move the engine forward. 

  • Perform day to day technical leadership of the team; bug triaging, code reviews as well as reviewing the current state of the code base for regressions. 

  • Guide team members to develop various (engine-) systems. 

  • Design and implement well-engineered, reliable, maintainable, and bug-free code. 

  • Keep up to date on state-of-the-art software engineering methods, practices, and technologies. 

  • Research and identify technical and developmental risks and obstacles and apply latest technologies and solutions to overcome them. 

  • Working with QA, effectively track, diagnose and solve a variety of complex issues.

 

What would we expect from our Core Tech Programmers? 

  • Comfortable working with C++ in a large, shared codebase.

  • Strong Multithreaded Code Understanding. 

  • Strong algorithmic understanding. 

  • Experience with memory management. 

  • Have a good knowledge of 3D mathematics. 

  • Have experience with programming game features and systems. 

  • A passion for making games. 

  • Work well in a co-located yet collaborative team environment. 

  • Willingness to learn new technologies.
