Job Description

As a Data Center Technician at Google, you'll be responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and support of current and new data center infrastructure. This involves installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware (servers, components) and server software (Google's Linux cluster). You'll also configure network components (routers, switches) and participate in or lead project teams on larger installations. The role requires physical exertion, working with cutting-edge technology, and involves troubleshooting complex technical issues. You will contribute to the maintenance of Google's advanced data center server and network infrastructure, ensuring the smooth operation of their powerful search technology. A key aspect involves resolving critical technical issues and testing new hardware components and designs.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Troubleshooting OS, hardware, or networking
Component-level IT equipment repair
Physical stamina and ability to lift equipment
Ability to work non-standard hours

Good to have:

Server system maintenance experience
Data center/NOC experience
Linux troubleshooting skills
Networking knowledge (topology, protocols)
Excellent communication skills

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting one of the following: operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols.
Experience with performing component-level repairs on IT equipment.
Ability to lift/move equipment and exert yourself physically over extended periods of time.
Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, holidays and on shift-based schedule as required.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in maintenance of server systems.
Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
Experience with troubleshooting hardware and network issues using Linux tools.
Knowledge of networking, including topology and protocol.
Excellent people and communication skills.

As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks, and while it can sometimes be physically demanding, you are excited to work with infrastructure that is at the cutting-edge of computer technology.

As a Data Center Technician, you will deploy and maintain Google's advanced Data Center Server and Network Infrastructure by installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware and server software. You will participate in or lead local project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.

Responsibilities

Contribute to efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of current and new data center infrastructure.
Learn and apply skills in repairing and troubleshooting different machine platforms.
Participate in complex troubleshooting and resolve critical technical issues.
Test and troubleshoot new server and network hardware components and designs.
Install and maintain switches, routers, and other large-scale networking gear.
