Job Summary

Job Description

The intern will be responsible for administering and supporting Microsoft Windows Server platforms, managing Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), DNS, and DHCP configurations. They will also assist in the deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows-based services and infrastructure components. Additionally, the intern will apply security patches and updates, monitor and remediate vulnerabilities, support VMware virtual environments and HP blade server infrastructure. The role involves participation in infrastructure upgrades, shift-based support, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and contributing to automation initiatives using scripting languages. The candidate is expected to adhere to ITIL best practices for incident, problem, and change management, while maintaining documentation and complying with cybersecurity guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be a motivated and adaptable IT professional with foundational knowledge in Microsoft technologies and a willingness to grow in a multifaceted infrastructure environment. Key responsibilities include:

Core Technical Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Microsoft Windows Server platforms (2008/2012/2016/2019), ensuring system stability, performance, and security.
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), DNS, and DHCP configurations.
  • Assist in the deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows-based services and infrastructure components.
  • Apply security patches and updates using tools such as SCCM and BigFix, ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
  • Monitor and remediate vulnerabilities and threats across the infrastructure, working closely with the cybersecurity team.

Infrastructure & Operations

  • Support and maintain VMware virtual environments and HP blade server infrastructure, including performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades, end-of-life (EOL) migrations, and cloud migration initiatives.
  • Provide shift-based and weekend support, including on-call duties as required to ensure 24/7 operational coverage.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project implementations and business-as-usual (BAU) operations.

Automation & DevSecOps

  • Learn and adopt DevSecOps practices, including the use of GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
  • Contribute to automation initiatives using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to streamline repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of automated patching, monitoring, and reporting solutions.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor the ServiceNow ticket queue, respond to incidents and service requests in a timely manner, and escalate as needed.
  • Generate and deliver monthly patching and compliance reports, collaborating with local and global teams to resolve outstanding issues.
  • Track and report on system health, performance metrics, and capacity utilization.

Professional Development

  • Continuously learn and embrace new technologies, tools, and methodologies relevant to the role.
  • Participate in training sessions, knowledge-sharing activities, and team meetings to stay current with industry trends and internal standards.

Process & Compliance

The candidate is expected to adhere to ITIL best practices for incident, problem, and change management, ensuring a structured and efficient approach to IT service delivery. They must operate within established cybersecurity guidelines and compliance frameworks to maintain secure, reliable, and auditable systems. Additionally, the individual should maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all systems, processes, and procedures to support transparency, continuity, and operational excellence.
