Harness Design Engineer

Indianapolis, IN

We’re looking for a Harness Design Engineer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on flagship RR programs and play an important role in addressing some of the most complex and interesting technological challenges in Defense.

As the Harness Design Engineer, you will advance the design and development of externals hardware specifically related to the development of electrical wiring harnesses, routing and associated mounting bracket supports.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the development of harnessing including design and analysis of solution, taking the design through multiple gate design reviews, identification of functional and physical interfaces, drawing and assembly instructions and authoring design reports.
  • Create detailed schematics, wire diagrams, and engineering drawings for wiring installations.
  • Support testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of electrical systems and harness installations.
  • Drive coordination of effort between the design and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure that program needs are met through the execution of the work package to plan.
  • Ensure project risks (technical, cost, supply chain and schedule) are identified and managed in accordance with the risk management plan.
  • Engage in technical and manufacturing issues and opportunities to enable quick decision making.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of experience in control systems, OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering OR
  • JD/PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • To be considered for this role, you must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the design, analysis, manufacture, and test of electrical harnessing
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards (RTCA/DO-160 and MIL-STD-810) and regulatory requirements
  • Desire to successfully lead in a team environment, establishing collaborative relationships with co-workers 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), change management, and risk management processes
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis and other problem-solving techniques
  • Current (or ability to obtain/maintain) US DOD Secret or Top Secret security Clearance
