Job Description

Google Cloud seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Technical Lead to contribute to its Backup and DR as a service. This role involves designing, architecting, and implementing scalable, reliable systems for mission-critical workloads in Google Cloud and hybrid environments. Responsibilities include understanding customer requirements, setting team vision, staying updated on cloud backup technology, proposing new features, working with other GCP teams, and ensuring consistent backup of stateful resources. The ideal candidate possesses 8+ years of software development experience, including data structures/algorithms, design/architecture, and testing/launching software products. Experience in a technical leadership role and working in a complex, matrixed organization is preferred. The team focuses on expanding its product, supporting more regions, and rapid recovery of various first-party products like GCE, Cloud SQL, and Filestore.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
Data structures/algorithms expertise
Design, architecture, testing experience
Technical leadership experience
Cloud backup technology knowledge

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in relevant field
Experience in complex organizations
Experience with GCP products (GCE, Cloud SQL, etc.)

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.

Backup and DR as a service is a new service for Google Cloud Platform. The Backup and Disaster Recovery team delivers business continuity solutions for mission critical workloads in Google Cloud and hybrid environments. The solution includes forever incremental application consistent backups across a spectrum of workloads like VMware, Compute Engine, GCVE VMs, and databases such as SAP HANA, Oracle, Microsoft SQL server, MySQL, PostgresSQL, IBM DB2, Sybase, and MariaDB. In the event of a disaster, the solution also provides rapid recovery of VMs and databases from these incremental backups in another region. The team is working on expanding this product, supporting more regions and rapid recovery of various other first-party products such as GCE, Cloud SQL, Alloy DB, and Filestore.

Responsibilities

Understand customer requirements and competitive landscape. Work with team and Google Cloud leadership to set the team's vision and strategic goals.
Stay abreast of the latest trends in cloud backup technology as well as GCP and drive innovation within the team. Propose and implement new features that enhance service capabilities and differentiate it from competitors.
Architect and design scalable, reliable systems that meet the needs of Backup and DR service's growing customer base.
Work with other GCP teams to ensure that Backup of stateful resources in GCP are done consistently using Backup and DR service.
