This Software Engineering III, Embedded role at Google involves developing next-generation technologies. Responsibilities include code review, ensuring best practices, debugging and resolving system issues, managing systems development in C/C++, managing networking/switching protocols, and data path development. The ideal candidate will have experience with Kernel, Kernel Drivers, Networking, Device Drivers, and Debugging/Troubleshooting. Experience with data structures and algorithms is essential. The position requires expertise in triage, debugging, and troubleshooting systems, and a strong understanding of the Linux kernel and/or network device drivers is preferred. The role is crucial to Google's infrastructure, contributing to the performance and reliability of its products.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 years software development experience
  • 2 years experience with data structures/algorithms
  • Experience with Kernel, Drivers, Networking, Debugging
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS
  • Linux kernel networking stack expertise
  • SmartNIC experience
  • Expertise in Linux kernel and/or network device drivers

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • Experience with Kernel, Kernel Drivers, Networking, Device Drivers, and Debugging/Troubleshooting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Expertise with the networking stack in the Linux kernel Experience with SmartNICs.
  • Expertise in triage and debug issues, and troubleshooting systems.
  • Expertise with the Linux kernel and/or network device drivers.

  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Debug, track, and resolve system issues by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
  • Manage systems development in C,C++.
  • Manage networking/switching protocols, data path, and development.
