This Staff Software Developer role focuses on Gemini Code Assist, an AI-powered tool within Google Cloud's Gemini portfolio. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership on high-impact projects, guiding the future of the Code Assist platform, coaching a distributed team of developers, working with product management to analyze customer feedback, managing project priorities and deliverables, and designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software solutions. The role involves expanding extensibility for Code Assist and enabling software agents to accelerate enterprise customer software development lifecycles. You will build product features launched to GCP's enterprise customers to drive Code Assist's growth. The position requires significant experience in software development, applied machine learning, and generative AI concepts.

  • 3+ years software design & architecture
  • 2+ years applied ML (fine-tuning, prompt optimization)
  • Technical leadership
  • Generative AI experience (LLMs, diffusion models)

  • Master's/PhD in relevant field

  • Cross-functional project experience

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 2 years of experience with applied Machine Learning (applied ML) including fine tuning and prompt optimization.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • 2 years of experience with generative AI concepts (LLMs, diffusion models, etc.), development workflows, and use cases.

Gemini Code Assist, which is a product in the Gemini for Google Cloud portfolio, offers AI-powered assistance to help the development team build, deploy, and operate applications throughout the software development life-cycle.

In this role, youu will drive the future of our tools platform capabilities, focused on expanding extensibility for the Code Assist product, as well as enabling a variety of software agents designed to accelerate and improve our enterprise customers’ software development life cycles. You will build product features and capabilities that we launch to GCP’s enterprise customers, to help drive the growth and success of the Code Assist product.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects and help guide the future of the Code Assist Tools platform.
  • Influence and coach a distributed team of developers in the shared development and verification of requirements, then produce designs and subsequent implementations.
  • Work with product management on analyzing customer feedback and suggest solutions matching customer needs.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
