The Coordinator, In-Game Communications & Research is an integral part of the NHL Stats & Information team, supporting the NHL Communications department during the in-game window. The main responsibilities of the Coordinator, In-Game Communications & Research include writing and editing editorial content, managing social media accounts, conducting statistical research (proactive and reactive) and answering statistical questions. Other regular duties include handling Situation Room communications, PR monitoring, data analysis and distribution, as well as supporting statistical auditing.

This is a remote role with varying hours – often working until approximately 2 a.m. ET – and shifts (including weekends and holidays). The ability to work unsupervised is essential, as is a comfort with working on deadline.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Contribute to a dynamic in-game team with multiple responsibilities that include writing and editing editorial content, managing social media accounts, conducting statistical research (proactive and reactive) and answering statistical questions.

  • Identify, write, and research storylines and relevant statistics for use in the NHL Morning Skate, #NHLStats Live Updates, @PR_NHL social media and other regular publications compiled by the NHL Stats & Information team. The NHL Morning Skate and #NHLStats Live Updates are daily publications during the season, highlighting the NHL’s top editorial moments and highlights in a succinct, compelling manner for media, Rightsholders, Member Clubs, League executives and fans.

  • Use various research tools, including a proprietary query engine, to generate relevant statistics and information, primarily for use in real-time by NHL staff, Rightsholders and Member Clubs.

  • Support in the writing and timely distribution of Situation Room explanations (via email), in coordination with the NHL Hockey Operations and Officiating departments, for video reviews, coach’s challenges and other rules-based situations.

  • Review and resolve scoring audits, working with multiple parties including NHL Hockey Operations and Off-ice Officials to correct and maintain the League’s official scoring database.

  • Assist with PR monitoring during the in-game window, notifying senior executives of stories and incidents that break of which they should be aware.

  • Use pre-produced Photoshop templates to create graphics for use on social media and in other editorial publications.

  • A deep knowledge base and passion for hockey, particularly the NHL, is essential to this role. Familiarity with NHL players, teams and the history of the NHL is important in helping to find unique and relevant statistics and information of interest to hockey fans and media.

  • Respond in a timely fashion, with thorough and accurate results, to requests from 32 Member Clubs, League employees, Rightsholders and media. The ability to work with Excel spreadsheets and identify, summarize and distribute key information is essential.

  • Work regularly in conjunction with other NHL departments, including Communications, Social Media, I/T Research Team, Hockey Operations and Officiating.
