Job Summary

Job Description

CRA is seeking a Safety Case Engineer with a Civil or Structural engineering background to join their Defence team in Glasgow. This role will involve reviewing existing safety case documentation, assessing structural design analysis/assessment studies in a multi-discipline environment, and determining if they meet modern standards. The successful candidate will work with a team of experienced engineers who have expertise in seismic engineering, structural dynamics, finite element analysis, and numerical modelling. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your safety case knowledge and understanding. The projects involve reviewing and assessing complex structures to resist variable and dynamic effects from earthquakes, dropped loads, impacts, vibrating machinery, mechanical handling, explosions, extreme environmental loading and fire. This requires an understanding of engineering principles and the considered application of numerical analysis techniques. The team will be undertaking work such as modelling ductile behaviour, ‘beyond design basis’ response, soil-structure-interaction and non-linear buckling behaviour. A basic understanding of how structural performance contributes to the critical safety function of nuclear facilities would be advantageous.
Must have:
  • Minimum 2-4 years post degree experience
  • Experience with Civil Engineering
  • Good understanding of structural theory
  • Good knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Nuclear or similar regulated industry experience

  • Understanding of requirements to assess soil-structure-interaction
  • Understanding of requirements of numerical analysis software
