We are currently looking for a Senior Paralegal to join our team in Dallas, TX!
Job Summary
Provide support to the Nissan North America (NNA) Legal Department, its subsidiary Nissan Motor Acceptance Company LLC (“NMAC”), NNA and NMAC’s Litigation counsel and the NMAC function on various consumer and commercial litigation matters. Additionally, provide support for other legal matters as may be required, including generally assisting in the provision of advice concerning the business’s compliance with laws and regulations.
A Day in the Life:
Assist in the management of the consumer litigation docket, from pre-filing through post-judgment and appeal, including in matters in arbitration. Independently managing certain matters under the supervision of departmental attorneys.
Assist in the management of a high visibility docket of commercial litigation matters involving third parties, including automotive dealerships, and lease accidents.
Assist in the management of class action and potential class action matters.
Retain and manage outside counsel, including overseeing matter budgets, defining the scope of engagement and supervising day-to-day activities.
Process subpoenas and service of process and coordinate responses to subpoenas in consultation with the business.
Assist with demands on third parties, including demands on dealers to repurchase contracts from NMAC.
Negotiating and executing settlements with third parties. Coordinate with internal parties as needed to resolve disputes.
Research consumer claims including retrieving information concerning consumer accounts for outside counsel from NMAC’s computer systems.
Communicate professionally with internal and external parties as may be required, including lawyers, government officials, internal or external auditors, and other persons related to the individual’s job function. Support responses to inquiries by the company’s auditors concerning pending litigation matters.
Assist with licensing matters as may be requested, including licensing renewals and new licensing applications.
Exercising discretion concerning matters under the individual’s responsibility, given the privileged and confidential nature of the individual’s work. Maintaining attorney-client privilege, and educating internal clients concerning
Advise on relevant industry, legal, and regulatory developments, including emerging trends and potential impacts
Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, support staff and clients on projects, including representatives from the Company’s regional business & legal departments across the globe and in varying time zones.
Utilize software applications (including Passport software program) to manage litigation matters.
Generate reporting concerning matters as may be requested, including for presentation to internal parties, including senior executives.
As necessary, perform other duties of which the above are representative.
Who We’re Looking for:
Experience managing civil litigation, including in the consumer, commercial, financial services, intellectual property, contract, and regulatory contexts
Experience with arbitration, including enforcement of agreements to arbitrate
Experience managing regulatory investigations, internal investigations, and document and testimonial discovery
Experience managing and responding to subpoenas
Experience in pursuing affirmative claims on behalf of the Company, including demand for payment under contracts with third parties.
Knowledge and understanding of the administrative process and legal compliance risks. Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to organize and handle high volumes of paperwork with detailed and diverse content.
Adaptable to change as legally mandated.
Ability to multi-task.
Deadline oriented with good time management skills.
Good computer skills and knowledge of multiple PC applications
Years of Experience:
3+ years as a litigation paralegal or other relevant experience.
Prior in-house or automotive experience is a distinct plus
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. Professional Certification as a paralegal from an ABA program.
Specific Course/Certifications:
Computer proficiency required (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet usage).
Good organizational skills to manage high volume of work. Computerized legal research skills (e.g., WESTLAW, Lexis/Nexis, PACER) and working knowledge of computerized case management and/or litigation support systems (Passport) highly desirable. Knowledge of on-line legal research tools.
High level working knowledge of spreadsheet, PC applications, or mainframe applications to produce non-standard, creative products.
Knowledge of case management database.
