Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney, Australia but we engage our Contractors and Freelancers all over the world to help us meet our crazy big goals. As a Contractor or Freelancer at Canva, you can work fully remotely in the country outlined above, meaning you have ultimate flexibility. Wherever works for you, works for us.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

Canva’s SEO is world-class, and we’re looking for a passionate Senior SEO Specialist to join the International SEO team to help scale our next phase of growth in South Korea.  This is a 12-month contract, full-time hours.

Supported by a broad team of global experts, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of SEO (technical/content/link building) across South Korean pages on canva.com. You'll have access to a range of the best enterprise-level third-party tools, as well as several platforms and products we have built in-house that help us do world-class SEO.

Part of your work will involve leading the localisation of new pages in the English section of the site and ensuring they are well-optimised for their target keywords in South Korea. But more than anything, we expect you to come up with the most impactful SEO strategies that will make Canva omnipresent in Naver search results, resulting in more organic sessions and signups in South Korea.

What you'll do

  • You’ll drive the development and implementation of Canva’s SEO Strategy in South Korea (focusing on Naver but also maintaining what we already do focusing on Google).
  • You’ll build and lead a team of seasoned SEO experts (and specialties included) to execute on your strategy.
  • You’ll identify and prioritise projects aligning with our global company (and SEO) goals
  • You'll become an expert in the search landscape for relevant niches within the South Korea-specific market (AI, photo editor, video editor, print, and more) and develop a good knowledge of local / global competitors and areas of opportunity for the South Korean market.
  • You'll build a backlog of goals, milestones and tasks to complete each cycle, considering your local opportunities while ensuring global alignment, and prioritising the work based on expected impact and effort
  • You'll work with content specialists and the localisation team to produce or translate the required content for the pages, then build and launch the pages in the Canva CMS
  • You'll guide outreach specialists to define the target pages for link-building campaigns, and support them to find new tactics and improve existing ones
  • You'll use our third-party tools to monitor the site for technical hygiene (broken links, redirect chains etc), and make fixes as required
  • You'll report on wins and opportunities for improvement within South Korea
  • You’ll support the growth of your local team when relevant, hiring SEO specialists in your market as required

You're probably a match if

  • You are a native-speaker in Korean (mastering key linguistic nuances for the Korean language and cultural considerations for keyword research) with business-level English to plan with and report to Canva SEO Global team.
  • You have a strong understanding of Naver and Google algorithms & ranking factors, someone that knows how to leverage each platform’s distinct features – like Naver Blog, News and Cafe sections.
  • You are capable of communicating those unique nuances to a variety of stakeholders to facilitate decision-making and how / when to prioritise the work with SEO engineering and data teams.
  • You can demonstrate successful outcomes from previous SEO projects on large websites (500 pages or more) that you have led in South-Korea.
  • You hve a good understanding of each of the three 'pillars' of SEO: content, technical and link building, and how they work together.
  • You can build a vision for delivering exceptionally high growth in South Korea and work independently to execute the necessary tasks to achieve that vision, solving your own problems where possible along the way
  • We're a large team that relies on tried-and-tested processes to execute tasks quickly and efficiently. As such, this role will suit an SEO specialist with high attention to detail and an ability for effective communication.
  • You have excellent analytical skills and are comfortable using data to guide your decision making
  • You have hands-on experience with SEO and web analytic tools such as Naver keyword planner, Naver Analytics, Google Analytics, Mode, Looker, Search Console, SEMRush, Ahrefs, Dragon Metrics, Screaming frog and Deepcrawl
