Job Description

This Software Engineer II role focuses on designing and building the future health platform for Android devices. You'll be creating APIs used by thousands of developers to enable health and fitness features for millions of users. Responsibilities include participating in design reviews, code reviews, contributing to documentation, debugging system issues, and designing with cross-product area requirements in mind. The position requires experience in Android application development, data structures, algorithms, and one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript). You'll work in a platform team environment impacting both third-party and first-party applications.
Must have:
  • Android app development experience
  • Data structures & algorithms knowledge
  • Programming language proficiency (e.g., Java)
  • Code review & debugging skills
  • API design & development
Good to have:
  • Experience with Jetpack
  • Open source development experience
  • System design knowledge
  • Experience with other mobile platforms

Job Details

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience with Android application development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Android or other mobile platforms.
  • Experience with open source development like Jetpack.
  • Knowledge in data structures, algorithms and systems design along with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to be a team player with excellent collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a platform team environment with a direct impact on both third-party and first-party applications.

In this role, you will help us design and build the future health platform for Android devices, building API that thousands of developers will use to enable health and fitness use cases across 10s growing to 100s of millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
  • Design and build with consideration of cross-product area requirements and stakeholders, helping navigate the dependencies.
