The TD Supervisor at Skydance Animation is a production role that partners with the production leadership team and the studio technology teams to ensure all technology needs of a specific production are delivered. The TD Supervisor will oversee all production Technical Directors. Their team will provide both technical support and user-facing tool development, define requirements for the Pipeline Engineers, and IT/Infrastructure teams. The TD Supervisor partners with all production department heads and the VFX Supervisor to produce and deliver the film. The TD Supervisor is also a member of the Technology department, contributing to the long term, multi-production technical and pipeline vision for the studio.

Responsibilities

    • Stakeholders:
    • Collaborates with the diverse range of stakeholders to define software and other technology requirements
    • Create a technical roadmap based on prioritized production needs, available resources, and project development strategies
    • Reports on the status of technical development projects, tool performance, production operations and support
    • Regularly examines their production’s user experiences, satisfaction, and level of understanding to identify areas of improvement to the production pipelines

    • Management:
    • Acts as the primarily contact person and is responsible for the success of the TD team
    • Actively sets the direction of technical development goals of the production, ensuring the schedule and budgetary requirements are met.
    • Works with the technical leads on the design and architecture of the production department tooling, making sure they are properly integrated and scalable
    • Gives guidance to the team and supervises the quality of the developed products
    • Coordinates closely with the Production Technology, Pipeline and IT Supervisors to assure that core infrastructure and production facing tools are well integrated and working harmoniously
    • Collaborates with the VP of Production Technology in regards to strategic planning and staffing of the current and future development projects
    • Partners with HR and TA to source and recruit the best talent in the industry
    • Mentors technical developers to guide them in their career paths
    • Acts as a company ambassador utilizing his/her extensive network in the industry and plays a key role in advocating for the studio

    • Technical:
    • Keeps up on current technology trends and tools (hardware and software) that best suit the production (and the company) in the development of a stronger creative technical environment
    • Coordinates with other departments to develop and implement solutions for the show using procedural techniques
    • Collaborates with the Production Technology, Pipeline and IT Supervisors to assure that the core infrastructure and the production facing tools are of the highest standards and address the needs of the productions

Requirements

    • Professional experience:
    • 8+ years in VFX or animation industries
    • At least 6-7 years of experience in Lead roles in the animation industry
    • Collaborates with the Production Technology, Pipeline and IT Supervisors to assure that the core infrastructure and the production facing tools are of the highest standards and address the needs of the productions

    • Artistic and or technical qualifications:
    • Demonstrated advance tools development experience in 3 or more out of the following of platforms: Maya, Houdini, Mari, Katana, Nuke, or Shotgun
    • Deep understanding of the 3D animation film production process, production pipelines and workflows (artistic and technical)
    • Ability to document Digital Processes and Technical Solutions
    • Practical knowledge in continuous delivery and agile methodologies
    • Advanced experience in Python
    • Solid Software Engineering skills with experience in software architecture code craft, and technical debt management

    • Language qualifications:
    • Advanced English level
    • Spanish oral and written is desirable

About Animation
