The WDI Show Lighting Design Intern will work on a team researching, designing, developing, installing, testing, adjusting, and documenting new projects. This involves applying architectural and theatrical lighting techniques to attractions, restaurants, merchandise areas, and theme park/resort development. Responsibilities include developing show lighting designs (under supervision), preparing basic lighting design and field implementation, troubleshooting and installing existing lighting, and providing general support to Lighting Designers. Additional tasks may include inventory control. Daily responsibilities may vary based on project needs.
Must have:
  • Passion for theatrical lighting storytelling
  • Theatrical lighting experience
  • CAD experience
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Teamwork skills
  • Valid Driver's License
Good to have:
  • AutoCAD and Revit experience

The approximate date of this internship is May/June 2025 to January 2026 and will be located in Anaheim, CA.    

What You Will Do  

As a Show Lighting Design Intern, you will work with the team that researches, designs, develops, installs, tests and adjusts, and/or documents new projects. These projects apply architectural and theatrical lighting techniques supporting the creative vision for attractions, restaurants, merchandise areas and/or area development in our Disney theme park and resort areas! Other tasks may include inventory control for equipment and supplies. Specific responsibilities and shifts may vary day to day based on each project’s needs and availability of the workplace.   • Develop, under supervision, designs of show lighting 
  • Prepare, under supervision, basic lighting design and field implementation 
  • Troubleshoot and install existing lighting in a construction environment 
  • Provide general support to Lighting Designers 

Required Qualifications & Skills  

  • Personal passion for storytelling through theatrical lighting
  • Hands on experience with theatrical lighting 
  • Experience with CAD 
  • Computer literacy with MS Office products 
  • Ability to work as a member of a technical team 
  • Valid Driver’s License required 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit

Education  

Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher attending an accredited college/university earning a degree in a Theatrical Lighting Design 

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information 

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements: 

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship  
  • Be at least 18 years of age  
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization  
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.  

Additional Information 

  • Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work 
  • Must be fully available for the duration of the internship
  • Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship in Anaheim, CA 

The pay rate for this role in Anaheim, CA is $26.50 per hour for undergraduate students and $27.50 for graduate level students.
