The Compositing Lead in Montreal will partner with supervisors and producers to execute clients' vision. Responsibilities include project task breakdown, team progress monitoring, providing constructive feedback, designing efficient workflows and tools, troubleshooting technical issues, and seamlessly integrating elements into footage. The role requires advanced Nuke skills, Shotgrid management, and experience leading teams in a VFX production pipeline. The ideal candidate will have a strong artistic aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment. This is a remote position offering extended health benefits and RRSP participation.

Who You Are

You are an experienced Compositing Lead ready to jump into an exciting studio environment with a wide variety of projects. You have demonstrated experience leading teams in a VFX production pipeline but are comfortable working on the box when needed. You are able to work with a producer to assist in bid shots and can  design workflows and estimate artist time and tasks from script, concept and/or video references. You have a strong creative vision and want to contribute those skills to a growing team and company.


What You’ll Do

  • Partner with Composting Supervisor, VFX Producers and Department Supervisors to execute clients' vision to the highest standards. 
  • Assist with project task breakdown, assignments for overall project plan, and monitoring the team’s task progress. 
  • Communicate task and team progress: meet quota targets, assist setting and implementing LookDev for the team, provide solutions and proactive escalation, as needed.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback when reviewing shots, maintaining quality control and consistency in sequences being worked on by multiple artists.
  • Design and develop procedural and innovative tool sets, templates, techniques for ongoing efficiencies for the team and future projects.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems on assigned shots.
  • Effectively and seamlessly integrate elements with production footage, using rotoscoping, keying, painting, tracking, and other compositing techniques.

What You Bring

  • At least 5+ years working in a VFX studio environment.
  • 2 + years experience as a Composting Lead or similar.
  • Advance knowledge of Nuke, Shotgrid Management a must.
  • Mocha, Silhouette, experience preferred.
  • Experienced leadership and problem solving skills in a VFX production environment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for technical workflow challenges: directory structure, file formats, naming conventions, scripts, automation tools, etc.
  • A thorough understanding of television VFX production pipelines (and feature film a plus).
  • A creative ability to interpret supervisor and client notes.
  • Strong artistic aptitude for shot composition, design, element creation, and/or look development for sequences, as well as the ability to create templates for other artists to use.
  • Ability to remain calm and positive in high pressure environments.


About This Role


This is a remote based role. Project and staff positions available with extended health benefits and opportunity to participate in RRSP programs. The posted pay range is aligned with what we believe is fair pay at the time of posting this role. An applicant’s relevant education, experience, skills and qualifications, location and currency may all be considered when deciding pay position within the range.
