This role involves developing and supporting software solutions for Pixel power management, diagnosability, and optimization. Responsibilities include leading design, development, and support for advanced power optimization software/firmware for Pixel SoC, prioritizing optimization for power, latency, and stability. The engineer will debug and triage power issues, improve observability of hardware and subsystem power states to the Android HAL, and contribute to enhancing battery life for Pixel devices and the Android ecosystem. The position requires strong C programming skills, experience with embedded systems, and a deep understanding of power management in mobile devices.
Must have:
  • 5+ years software development in C
  • Embedded systems development experience
  • Experience with SoC and Linux kernel
  • Power management software experience
  • Software design and architecture experience
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS
  • C++, Rust, or Python proficiency
  • Experience with firmware or device drivers
  • Knowledge of computer architecture and real-time systems

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in C programming language, and data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience in embedded systems development, SoC, Linux kernel.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience in power management software for embedded systems.
  • Experience with power management, system on a chip, firmware, or device drivers.
  • Working knowledge of computer architecture, real time systems, microprocessors, Linux drivers, and Android Kernel.
  • Proficiency coding with C++, Rust, or Python languages.

The Pixel Power Management Software Team Leads, create and support software solutions to manage, measure, and monitor Pixel device power along with detection, attribution, and mitigation of power issues in order to improve battery life for Pixel devices and by extension, the Android ecosystem for end-user experience with battery life.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support software solutions and tools for Pixel power management, power diagnosability, and power optimization.
  • Lead team efforts in design, development, and support for advanced power optimization Software/Firmware for Pixel SoC.
  • Prioritize optimization for power, latency, and system stability.
  • Debug and triage power issues.
  • Improve observability of the hardware and subsystem power states to Android Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL).
