The Lab Failure Analysis Engineer at Intel Dalian Memory Technology and Manufacturing (DMTM) investigates failures and enhances processes to improve yield, quality, and reliability of next-generation memory products. Responsibilities include defining failure analysis strategies, conducting lab work to evaluate electrical and mechanical characteristics of integrated circuits, and identifying root causes of failures. The role requires developing methodologies, directing technology transfer, and analyzing failure reports to recommend corrective actions. This position is associated with the sale of Intel's NAND memory and storage business to SK Hynix, and the successful candidate will transition to SK group upon the closing of the transaction.
Must have:
  • Master's degree in science/engineering
  • 2+ years' experience in semiconductor failure analysis
  • Experience with EMMI, OBIRCH, InGaAs, AFP
  • Understanding of 3D NAND technology
  • Knowledge of electrical and physical failure analysis flows
Good to have:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering

Job Description

Intel Dalian Memory Technology and Manufacturing (DMTM) is high-volume manufacturing memory fab in Intel China working on leading edge 3D NAND product. Intel and SK Hynix have an agreement for SK Hynix to acquire Intel's NAND memory and storage business. and Intel will continue to manufacture NAND wafers at the Dalian memory manufacturing until the final closing expected to occur in March 2025. Intel DMTM will continue to build on the success of our NAND technology at a greater scale, play a larger role in supporting our customers.

Identifies failures and investigates process and product enhancements to improve yield, quality, and reliability of next generation silicon, product, package, platforms, and boards process technologies. Defines failure analysis strategy and conducts lab work to evaluate the electrical and mechanical characteristics of integrated circuits, components, subcomponents, and systems to determine the root cause of failure. Investigates and thoroughly explains fundamental aspects of interactions between material and device to identify root cause of failure. Owns the development of electrical, analytical, and mechanical methodologies to ensure strategic failure analysis capabilities for future technologies and products. Directs new technology and/or product transfer, manufacturing startup, and the automation and improvement of the failure analysis process. Analyzes failure reports and recommends corrective action to prevent reoccurrence of problems and owns proliferation of shared learning across sites.

This position is associated with the sale of Intel's NAND memory and storage business to SK. This transaction will enhance the resources and potential of the business' storage, and you will be joining a world-class team that will transition to lead the SSD business at SK group. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in science and engineering major. 2+ years' experience in a semiconductor failure analysis laboratory. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in electrical engineering major. 4+ years' experience in a semiconductor failure analysis laboratory supporting advanced technology node technology development. Experience operating failure analysis tools with deep understanding on tools such as EMMI, OBIRCH, InGaAs, AFP etc. Understanding of 3D NAND technology architecture. Knowledge of electrical and physical failure analysis flows for semiconductor including package/component level and silicon wafer level. Hands on experience operating laboratory equipment.
