APM Terminals headquarters, Equipment Engineer is part of Global Asset Engineering and Design Team and is responsible for providing input and assistance to deployment of terminal equipment - for new and existing terminals - and translating Operational Requirements into the technical specifications and technical drawings.
Additionally, evaluates the technical proposals and, in collaboration with Procurement, selects suppliers, optimising cost and time while reducing risk.
Accountable to carry out the technical review of the Equipment Design developed by suppliers, electrical and/or mechanical.
We are looking for an equipment engineer with experience on developing equipment specifications, being part of large procurement processes, delivering and commissioning heavy equipment, preferable in a Port or container terminal environments.
Overall responsibilities are the following
Equipment Design:
- Develop standard specifications for different kind of equipment and keep them updated with new technologies and learnings from the terminals, with guidelines that impact technical, safety, and Operations performance of equipment.
- Develop, in collaboration with peers, the Employer’s General Requirements, ensuring the integration of safety, operational, maintenance, automation, and asset digitization requirements.
- Follow type approve process and maintain a register of equipment-systems-components approved for global usage.
Engineering Projects:
- Work on due diligences, new business cases together with the wider engineering team.
- Work closely with global Automation function to ensure we stay up to date on Automation and Technology trends and we consider them for our terminals.
- Elaborate the documents, hence the scope, for the Request for Proposal of suppliers.
- Conduct technical feasibility evaluations and provide equipment recommendations.
- Participate in a tender team, analyzing and evaluating suppliers’ proposals.
- Achieve design review (with the support of consultant as needed)
- Be Equipment Engineering corporate SPOC for assigned projects.
- Support projects in hiring, onboarding and functionally managing project Equipment Managers.
- Work closely and where needed manage and direct external consultants.
Subject Matter Expert:
- Provide fundamental input to new or existing equipment retrofit, with special focus on electrification / hybrid initiatives and automation.
- Provide global support to the Terminals and Procurement as part of Operations, for technical improvements and innovation.
- Build effective communication and collaboration with associated Functions and external parties and support result-oriented cross functional cooperation to achieve common goals.
CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Experience
- Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in Equipment Technical Specs definition, and the Engineering Subject Matter Expert in Project Execution Teams.
- In depth, heavy equipment experience, preferable in a Ports environment
- Good general understanding of the mobile port equipment with relevant exposure to different engineering fields and systems (PLC, equipment electrical diagrams, automation systems, hydraulics, mechanics, steel structure)
- Proved international experience is mandatory.

Education
- MSc or BSc in Electronic, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
