Job Description

Canva seeks a fluent French (fr-FR & fr-CA) localisation reviewer for a 6-month, part-time (20-30 hours/week) remote contract. Responsibilities involve reviewing translated templates (posters, invitations, social media graphics, etc.) for language quality, cultural appropriateness, and design consistency across French and French Canadian markets. This includes spell-checking, grammar correction, ensuring adherence to brand guidelines, identifying and resolving design issues, and redesigning as needed to ensure cultural sensitivity and accuracy. The ideal candidate possesses proven experience in content localisation, a deep understanding of French culture (France and Canada), and the ability to swiftly adapt to internal tools.

Our flagship campus is in Sydney, Australia but we engage our Contractors and Freelancers all over the world to help us meet our crazy big goals. As a Contract at Canva you can work remotely in the country listed on this job ad, meaning you have ultimate flexibility. Wherever works for you, works for us. Please note this is a 6 month contract with part-time hours, approx. 20-30 hours per week. 

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced native/fluent French localisation reviewer to review translated templates, including posters, invitations, social media graphics, presentations, print materials, and more, created using Canva’s design tool. The goal will be to localise content from English to French (fr-FR & fr-CA) by adjusting language and updating design to be more in line with the French and French Canadian market. You will review templates by providing language feedback, and implementing language and design fixes on the following areas: 

  • Spell check and grammar:
  • Language quality and flow (grammar, punctuation, spelling errors/typos, cohesiveness, etc.)
  • Adherence to guidelines and brand tone of voice
  • Design issues (improper line breaks in text, inappropriate/incorrect/controversial imagery, font replacement, etc.)
  • Cultural fit
  • Redesigning as necessary

You're probably a match if

  • You are fluent in French (fr-FR & fr-CA), with knowledge of common slang and unique phrases used in France and Canada.Please do not apply if you are not fluent in these two languages. 
  • You have experienced in content localisation, particularly in design and copy. 
  • You have the ability to learn internal design and localisation tools quickly, and get things done in a timely manner. 
  • You have a keen understanding in the French (France & Canada) market, including its history, trends, news, and social and political culture. 
  • You have the ability to read and follow strict guidelines, and communicate coherently and properly.
  • With a strong foundation and stylistic approach to design, with a keen understanding in visual, cultural, and popular trends, especially in France and Canada. 
  • Have an understanding of French culture, trends, news, controversies, history, conflict, and can stay up-to-date with the local scene to create templates with appropriate and non-discriminatory, non-sensitive content.
  • Have an understanding of French cultural sensitivities to ensure that content is appropriate for the market, both from a social and legal perspective.
