About the job:
Google is seeking a Network Engineer to join our Corporate Network Deployments team in Sydney, Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, build, and operation of multi-vendor networks across various platforms and technologies. You will collaborate with other engineers and project managers to ensure successful deployments and troubleshoot any encountered issues within the global network. You will also provide technical leadership for complex projects, drive high-level strategy for larger deployments, and partner with engineering to provide lifecycle management of network designs and rollouts. This role requires a strong understanding of networking protocols and technologies, experience with enterprise-class routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 3 years of experience with network routing protocols, design and troubleshooting
  • Experience with network equipment providers
  • Experience in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++, Go, or Python)
Good to have:
  • Experience in deploying and working with Local Area Networks (LANs), Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), and Wide Area Networks (WANs)
  • Experience in configuring enterprise-class routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers across different vendors
  • Experience in high-volume, high-availability network technologies
  • Knowledge of fundamental networking technologies and protocols (e.g., ARP Ethernet, DHCP, IPSec, GRE, WiFi standards, routing protocols, DNS, RADIUS, 802.1x)
  • Knowledge of principles and the practice of processes for developing computer software and familiarity with Unix systems administration
  • Ability to write working and well-structured code

Minimum qualifications:

Responsibilities

  • Ensure delivery of multi-vendor networks across various platforms and technologies. Collaborate with other engineers and project managers to design, build and turnover successful deployments to operations.
  • Troubleshoot encountered issues within the global network. Perform fault isolation and trouble resolution on network protocols, technologies, hardware, software, and circuits to successfully meet due dates.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex projects to increase stability of the network, enhance scalability, efficiency, and quality of network deployments. Scale network deployments sustainably through tools and automation.
  • Review deployed technologies, performance, capacity and standard level agreements (SLAs) from a strategic point of view and provide recommendations that spawn new projects for the team.
  • Partner with engineering to provide life cycle management of network designs, software selections, validations and rollouts to our fleet. Drive high level strategy for larger and/or complex deployments.
