Responsibilities include creating and delivering accessibility training, consulting with content creators, partnering with stakeholders to develop remediation plans, and staying updated on accessibility standards and regulations. The position requires expertise in accessibility standards and excellent communication skills to work effectively with diverse audiences across a large institution.

The Digital Accessibility Program ensures that information technology resources are accessible to individuals with disabilities, including those using assistive technologies. Created through a collaboration between IT and the Office of Disability Access and Compliance, this program is fundamental in supporting equitable access across the campus. 

As a Digital Content Accessibility Specialist, you will join a unique team within the IT team dedicated to fostering an inclusive digital experience. Your primary responsibilities will include assessing and planning remediation for public digital content, developing and delivering training resources, providing consultations, and tracking and reporting on accessibility initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities 

Digital Accessibility Evaluation and Remediation   

  • Conduct digital content audits and develop plans to enhance accessibility, ensuring adherence to standards such as WCAG 2.1 AA. 
  • Provide quality assurance for accessible digital assets, including online documents, websites, training materials, videos, and multimedia content. 
  • Collaborate with content creators to improve accessibility in digital and learning management systems. 

Training and Support   

  • Develop and deliver synchronous and on-demand accessibility training for faculty, staff, and students. 
  • Guide digital content authors and managers on best practices for creating accessible materials and provide technical support in resolving accessibility issues. 

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication   

  • Partner with departments and campus stakeholders to develop remediation plans and provide regular accessibility status updates. 
  • Create accessible resources and outreach materials tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Represent the Digital Accessibility Program in cross-functional teams addressing complex accessibility challenges on campus. 

Professional Development and Compliance Monitoring   

  • Stay informed about accessibility standards and regulatory updates to guide daily work and program initiatives. 
  • Maintain expertise in WCAG standards, WAI-ARIA guidelines, HTML/CSS, and accessibility policies. 

 Qualifications 

  • Expertise in accessibility standards and experience in evaluating digital content. 
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences. 
  • Collaborative team player with experience working with various stakeholders across a large institution.
