Job Details

League of Geeks is looking for a talented Principal Artist with strong 2D game art skills (who loves building game worlds!) to join us on our next exciting project. In this pivotal role, you will take responsibility for developing and employing the game's art in-engine (e.g. Unity or Unreal) while helping fellow artists achieve their goals. You have experience building pipelines for games in-engine, and a decent understanding of 2D animation techniques (e.g. Spine, Adobe Animate, Toon Boom, etc).

As a key member of LoG's team you will make fundamental decisions on the processes and pipelines of the game through pre-production, working in partnership with the creative director and engineers to deliver outstanding game-ready art assets with the goal of building a beautiful and living game world. You are an expert in your craft and will be able to provide critical guidance to other artists working on the project whilst maintaining a sustainable, healthy and positive working environment for the team to thrive in.

Soon to emerge from our recent hibernation, League of Geeks remains committed to building a world-class working environment for game developers, with a genuine focus on well being, skill development, community and purpose. So if you’re keen to join the reinvention of one of the world’s leading independent studios as we embark on a brand new PC/console project, we want to hear from you!

This is a full-time, 24-month fixed-term position with the possibility of ongoing employment, though make no mistake, you will be a critical part of the LoG team.

Women and other underrepresented developers, please apply! We pride ourselves on our inclusive work environment and output, so we’d love to work with you.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years relevant videogame development experience.
  • Strong demonstrable talents in 2D art fundamentals and animation.
  • A strong drive to produce professional, exciting visuals and experiences for videogame players.
  • Proficiency in standard industry tools (i.e., Adobe Suite/Unreal/Unity/Blender, etc) and a high capacity to source and learn new tools.
  • Great communication, analytical, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Detail sensitivity, a proven aesthetic eye, and strong design sensibilities.
  • A commitment to working in a professional, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  • Ability to work independently; managing time, task lists, and workflow with ease.
  • Excellent communication, creative collaboration, and teamwork skills.
  • A passion for motivating, inspiring, mentoring, and educating your fellow team members.

Responsibilities:
As a Senior 2D Artist here at League of Geeks, you will:

  • Work in-engine to take the game’s proposed look and translate it into a striking and engrossing game world.
  • Take responsibility in ensuring the quality of art produced by the department meets LoG's industry-leading standards.
  • Collaborate with the creative director to maintain a unified departmental vision, and those values/standards become everyday practice across the team.
  • Assist production in setting effective goals and themes for sprints and milestones, coordinating directly with the game director to ensure a unified vision for our projects.
  • Work with production, the creative director, and your team to ensure departmental deadlines are met.
  • Utilise your technical and artistic skills to work "on tools" alongside the art team
  • In counsel with the creative director, help departmental recruitment and hiring initiatives.
  • Be an active mentor and role model for the art team, consistently leading through exemplary performance, professionalism, resourcefulness, mindfulness, and integrity.

Benefits:

  • Bring your dog to work. Yeah, dogs!
  • Talent development, mentorship and support.
  • Regular self-directed professional development days.
  • Flexible work arrangement opportunities and family-friendly considerations.
  • Menstrual, Menopause and Parental leave.
  • Sustainable working hours, environment and life-work balance.
  • Friday afternoon team social events, including monthly get-togethers.
  • Annual Summer Holidays Family Picnic and Winter Feast.
  • Melbourne International Games Week attendance.
  • Located in Melbourne, the most liveable city in Australia. Fourth in the world!
