Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Design, develop and deploy solutions and hands-on software development – working closely with leads, designers, and product managers to deliver features and experiments to our customers worldwide
• Primarily working on web frontend with Typescript, but may need to work with other languages and environments
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and optimally advocate for engineering needs to non-technical team members within the group
• Models initiative and ownership in achieving goals, improving processes and solutions
• Finds opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new insights and improvements that help achieve our goals

You're probably a match if

• You are technically versatile, with diverse experience in frontend tech stacks
• You have experience with TypeScript (or other typed languages), React, MobX (or other state management libraries), particularly using types on APIs to provide guard rails for developers
• Experience working in an Agile (Scrum) team
• You have a flexible and creative view of building delightful user experiences
• You have experience coaching / guiding other engineers and acting as a mentor.
• You’re excited about what AI can bring to the table and are ready to work closely with our machine learning engineers to fine-tune how we create innovative support experiences. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others.
• Passion for producing new designs and prototyping for quick turnarounds of early-stage ideas.

At Conversational Editing, we are at the forefront of transforming how users interact with Canva's AI within Canva’s editor. Our mission is to be the AI partner throughout the design editing journey, ensuring that every conversation between users and AI translates into visually stunning and intuitive outcomes. We work across LLM and Editor stack to seamlessly integrate AI-powered suggestions into Canva’s Editor, bringing creativity to life with ease. Together, we shape the future of design by enabling users to create beautiful designs with minimal effort, driving Canva’s vision of empowering the world to design. Our contributions directly impact Canva's strategy of making design accessible to everyone.

In our team, you will take the lead in translating AI suggestions into visually impactful and intuitive design experiences. As a Frontend Engineer, you will drive the development of prototypes that continually enhance the user experience, ensuring that every AI-driven design recommendation is both functional and beautiful. By working closely with Canva's frontend APIs, you will seamlessly integrate AI into core editing actions, making design smoother and more accessible for users. Together, we push the boundaries of what's possible in design, directly contributing to Canva's mission of empowering everyone to create with ease and confidence.
