As a Senior Houdini Artist at welevel, you'll be pivotal in shaping the visual identity of SolidRiver, a AAA survival game. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing procedural asset generation pipelines (environments, structures, natural elements) using Houdini; developing and optimizing procedural workflows for efficient asset creation and integration into Unreal Engine 5; collaborating with art, design, and engineering teams; creating VFX, destruction simulations, and dynamic procedural effects; optimizing Houdini tools for performance; and mentoring junior artists. You'll work on a procedurally generated, medieval world with AI-driven NPCs, contributing to a groundbreaking game with deep city-building mechanics in the late game.
Must have:
  • 3+ years Houdini experience
  • Procedural modeling, simulation, VFX expertise
  • Unreal Engine 5 proficiency
  • Python/VEX scripting
  • Environment art principles knowledge

Your Role

As a Senior Houdini Artist, you will play a key role in shaping the visual identity of our world by creating high-quality procedural assets, simulations, and visual effects. You will work closely with our art, design, and engineering teams to develop procedural workflows that enhance the efficiency and scalability of our production pipeline. This is an onsite role in Munich, where you’ll collaborate directly with a passionate team dedicated to redefining the survival genre.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement procedural asset generation pipelines for environments, structures, and natural elements using Houdini.
  • Develop and optimize procedural workflows to streamline asset creation and integration into the game engine.
  • Collaborate with the art, design, and engineering teams to ensure procedural assets align with artistic direction and technical constraints.
  • Create VFX, destruction simulations, and dynamic procedural effects to enhance gameplay and immersion.
  • Optimize Houdini tools for performance and efficiency in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Support and mentor junior artists in procedural content creation and Houdini workflows.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience as a Houdini Artist in the game or film industry.
  • Strong expertise in Houdini for procedural modeling, simulation, and VFX.
  • Experience with procedural terrain, biome generation, and asset workflows.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5, including Houdini Engine integration.
  • Knowledge of Python/VEX scripting to create custom tools and automation.
  • Strong understanding of environment art principles, lighting, and optimization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for technical challenges.
  • Passion for survival games, city-building mechanics, and immersive world creation.
Nice to have
  • Experience with Blueprints in Unreal Engine.
  • Background in shader development or procedural texturing.
  • Experience in large-scale world building using procedural methods.
  • Knowledge of character FX (hair, cloth, destruction, fluids, smoke, fire, etc.).
