Job Description

This Software Engineer role within Google's Pixel Camera team involves developing the software stack for Android's camera Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL). Responsibilities include creating Pixel camera peripheral drivers (image sensors, optical image stabilization, etc.), enabling advanced multi-camera frameworks, developing intelligent algorithms, optimizing performance and power consumption, and exploring emerging technologies. The ideal candidate will have experience with C++, data structures, algorithms, and ideally, experience with Linux device drivers, mobile system optimization, and imaging algorithms. The role requires contributing to improving the Pixel camera's performance, power efficiency, and memory management.
Must have:
  • C++ software development experience
  • Data structures and algorithms expertise
  • Android camera HAL development
  • Pixel camera peripheral driver development
  • Algorithm development and optimization
Good to have:
  • Master's or PhD in related field
  • Unix/Linux experience and Linux device driver development
  • C, Python programming experience
  • Mobile device system health optimization
  • Multi-camera system experience
  • Experience with Camera Sensors, ARM or low-power SoC architectures

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in C++, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environments and the development of Linux device drivers.
  • Experience in programming with C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with mobile device system health optimizations, along with multi-camera systems.
  • Experience in applying algorithms in imaging domains.
  • Experience with Camera Sensors, Advanced RISC Machine (ARM) or other low-power SoC architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software stack to support Android camera Hardware Abstraction Layer(HAL).
  • Develop Pixel camera peripheral driver (e.g., Image sensor, Optical Image Stabilization, Voice Coil Motor, Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory, Flash, etc.).
  • Enable Advanced Multi-Camera software frameworks and related use cases.
  • Develop Intelligent algorithm, optimize and integrate.
  • Improve Pixel camera performance, power and memory and develop related tools, and explore emerging technologies and validate them.
