The Associate Cloud Technical Solutions Engineer, Storage at Google Cloud focuses on providing seamless support to companies using Google's storage products. Responsibilities include troubleshooting customer issues related to Google Cloud Storage, Filestore, and other storage solutions; reproducing and resolving issues, determining root causes, and developing diagnostic tools. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Google's product technology and underlying architectures. The engineer will act as a consultant for internal and external stakeholders, resolving technical deployment obstacles and improving Google Cloud. Collaboration with a global team is crucial for providing 24/7 customer support, potentially requiring non-standard work hours.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or equivalent experience
  • Troubleshooting and customer advocacy skills
  • Coding experience (Java, C++, Python, etc.) or system design
  • Manage customer problems and develop diagnostic tools
  • Deep understanding of Google Cloud Platform storage products
Good to have:
  • Experience with object storage systems (e.g., Google Cloud Storage)
  • Network troubleshooting and packet capture analysis
  • SQL query writing and large dataset analysis
  • Linux/Unix or Windows systems knowledge
  • Knowledge of core data structures and HTTP protocol

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting and advocating for customers' needs, and triaging technical issues (e.g., hardware, software, application, operational, process).
  • Experience coding in a general purpose coding language (e.g., Java, C, C++, Python, Shell, Go or JavaScript, etc.) or in system design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with object storage systems (e.g., Google Cloud Storage).
  • Experience in network troubleshooting, including collecting and reading packet captures.
  • Experience writing and executing SQL queries against large datasets and log files, troubleshooting technical issues and analyzing usage patterns.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix or Windows systems from Kernel to Shell and beyond, file systems and client-server protocols.
  • Knowledge of core data structures and concepts: HTTP Protocol, Web frameworks, and common Web Technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage customer problem through effective diagnosis, resolution, or implementation of new investigation tools to increase productivity for customer issues on Storage Google Cloud Platform products (e.g., Google Cloud Storage, Filestore and others).
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of Google's product technology and underlying architectures by troubleshooting, reproducing, and determining the root cause for customer reported issues, and building tools for faster diagnosis.
  • Act as a consultant and subject matter expert for internal stakeholders in engineering, sales, and customer organizations to resolve technical deployment obstacles and improve Google Cloud.
  • Work as part of a team of engineers/consultants that globally ensure 24 hour customer support. This will include a need to sometimes work non-standard work hours or shifts.
