This role involves manufacturing costumes by sewing to efficiency and quality standards, using high-powered industrial sewing machines, press equipment, glues, and tools. You will work on entertainment, operational, and character costumes for parades, character meet and greets, and shows. The role requires constructing detailed and intricate garments from start to finish, applying size charts to alter garments, collaborating with the Patternmaker on replenishment orders, and performing repairs/alterations to all types of garments. You will also be responsible for sharing sewing techniques and standard processes, working in an area where you may be exposed to performers in various stages of dress/undress, reading and interpreting patterns and specifications sheets with little to no direction, and manufacturing and altering garments above minimum workroom efficiency standards. This role requires working with costumes and fabrics made of synthetic and natural fibers such as fur, foam, vinyl, latex, and leather.
Must have:
  • 18 years of age
  • Sewing Assessment
  • Production, Millinery, Patternmaking, or Alterations
  • Work with synthetic and natural fibers
  • Heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling
  • Prolonged standing, repetitive grasping, clutching, and grabbing

Job Summary:

Have you ever dreamed of manufacturing and altering entertainment, operational, and character costumes using specifications sheets and drawings for our parades, character meet and greets and shows at Walt Disney World? We are currently seeking Construction Sewing Specialists! In this role, our Cast will manufacture costumes by sewing to our efficiency and quality standards by working high-powered industrial sewing machines, press equipment, glues, and tools!

You will report to the Costuming Workroom Manager.

The starting pay rate for this role in Florida is $17.25 per hour.

As a part of the consideration process for this position, there will be an 8-hour in-person assessment.

Responsibilities:

  • Construct detailed and intricate garments from start to finish
  • Sophisticated sewing on a variety of fabrics
  • Apply size chart to alter garments
  • Collaborate with Patternmaker on replenishment orders
  • Construct garments and perform repairs/alterations to all types of garments
  • Share sewing techniques and standard processes
  • Work in an area where you may be exposed to performers in various stages of dress/undress
  • Read and interpret patterns and specifications sheets with little to no direction
  • Manufacture and alter garments above minimum workroom efficiency standards
  • Build, repair, or alter garments using a wide variety of hand and machine sewing techniques
  • Additional Personal Protective Equipment (face shields, goggles, refillable hand sanitizers, etc.) may be required
  • Cast Members may be required to handle cleaning chemicals and supplies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must successfully pass a Sewing Assessment
  • Experience with production, millinery, patternmaking, or alternations
  • Willing to work with costumes and fabrics made of synthetic and natural fibers such as fur, foam, vinyl, latex, and leather
  • Physical role requiring heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling, and prolonged standing
  • Repetitive grasping, clutching, and grabbing with hands
  • Work at various heights and varying temperatures in a high-lint area
  • Part-Time roles require full availability for any shift, a MINIMUM of three (3) days per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Full-Time roles require Full availability for any shift, seven (7) days per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience in garment construction or repair
  • Experience using industrial sewing machines in a professional setting
