Job Description

The Facility Operations Manager for Data Center Operations at Google will plan and execute campus operational budgets, forecast expenses, and manage established budgets. This role requires setting strategy and planning deployments across multiple sites, integrating Google-wide strategy with internal and external partners. The manager will create strategies for cost-effective operations, focusing on total cost of ownership, while demonstrating critical thinking and innovation to solve problems. Responsibilities include managing data center performance issues and outages, ensuring environmental and safety standards are met, and providing daily assistance to senior technicians. The ideal candidate will have experience as a Facilities Manager or Chief Engineer in a critical facility, managing a mission-critical facilities portfolio and understanding data center electrical systems.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Facilities Manager/Chief Engineer experience in critical facilities
Experience managing mission-critical facilities portfolio
Expertise in critical facilities management (facility, technical, team management)
Budget planning and execution
Strategic planning and deployment across multiple sites

Good to have:

Master's degree in Engineering
Collaboration with other business units
Understanding of data center electrical systems
Excellent people management and leadership skills

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
Experience as a Facilities Manager or Chief Engineer within a critical facility.
Experience managing a mission critical facilities portfolio.
Experience in critical facilities management including facility, technical, and team management.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
Experience collaborating with other business units to meet company goals and standards.
Understanding of the operations and maintenance of electrical systems in a data center environment.
Excellent people management and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facility Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You'll provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

You will develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.
