Job Description

As a Senior Animator at Day[9]'s Game Studio, you'll be a key contributor to defining the motion and personality of characters, creatures, and environments in their upcoming unannounced multiplayer PC strategy game. You will collaborate closely with the art director, designers, and character artists to create technically precise and emotionally impactful animations for a real-time setting. Responsibilities include collaborating on artistic vision, cross-department collaboration, pipeline development, high-quality animation creation, project management, iteration and improvement, and mentorship. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in game animation, expertise in 3D animation software, a strong understanding of animation principles, and excellent communication skills. The position is fully remote and open to candidates in specific time zones.
Must have:

Work with Sean "Day[9]" Plott on an unannounced multiplayer PC strategy game. We're funded and provide competitive salaries and benefits. We're fully remote and this job is open to US, Canada and LATAM.

As a Senior Animator, you will be a key contributor to defining the motion and personality of characters, creatures, and environments. You will work closely with the art director, designers, and character artists to create animations that are both technically precise and emotionally impactful. This position requires an experienced animator with a strong understanding of movement and timing, a love for character expression through animation, and the skills to deliver high-quality animations in a real-time setting that enhance the gameplay experience.

Responsibilities

  • Artistic Vision: Collaborate with the art director to shape and drive the visual style of all in-game animations
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with the art director, concept artists, designers, and character artists to ensure cohesive animation that supports gameplay and art direction
  • Pipeline Development: Collaborate with the technical art team to develop and refine animation pipelines and workflows to improve production efficiency, quality, and consistency
  • Contribution: Create high-quality rigs and animations for real-time characters
  • Project Management: Work with the other leaders on the team to manage timelines, ensure deadlines are met, and identify any resource needs or roadblocks in production
  • Iterate and Improve: Receive and apply feedback from art director and design, iterating on animations to achieve the desired quality and performance
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Provide feedback and mentorship to other animators, contributing to a collaborative and growth-focused team culture

Qualifications

  • Game Experience: Passion for one or more of the following genres: MOBA, RTS, Card, Strategy, Roguelike.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in 3D software for rigging and animation (e.g. Maya, MotionBuilder, Blender)
  • Artistic Skill: Strong grasp of animation principles, timing, weight, character expression, and visual communication through movement
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine
  • Rigging Knowledge: Ability to create, work with, and modify with a variety of rigs for in-game characters and assets
  • Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other departments
  • Portfolio: An outstanding animation reel/portfolio demonstrating a range of work, with an emphasis on character animation
  • Vision: Willingness to work with the art director and other artists to drive the artistic direction for in-game character animation
  • Experience: Previous experience working as an animator in video games is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with 3D modeling, concept art, or related artistic disciplines in valued, but not required
  • Experience in facial animation is highly valued, but not expressly required
