Job Details

As a Senior Game Designer, you will report to a Lead Game Designer and play a crucial role in shaping the gameplay experience of various AAA titles in the Age of Empires franchise. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a classic franchise and contribute to its success!

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement engaging systems and features to enhance player retention and lifetime value

  • Create innovative and balanced game mechanics that provide a compelling gameplay experience

  • Ensure game balance by fine-tuning various elements such as combat mechanics and progression systems

  • Optimize user experience by identifying and addressing pain points, improving UI/UX design, and enhancing overall player satisfaction

  • Develop AI that challenges players and provides a satisfying level of difficulty

  • Effectively communicate design vision and specifications through thorough visualization tools, documentation, presentations, and verbal communication

  • Work with other departments to execute/implement design and problem-solve throughout the development process

  • Balance scope, budget, and timeline considerations with creativity to ensure reasonable goals and workload for the design team

  • Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to inform the design process and distil insights/feedback into actionable steps

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in game development, with a proven track record of designing successful games

  • Knowledge on leading design tools and project management software

  • Proactive work ethic, with the ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to completion

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meticulously refine game mechanics and systems

  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate ideas and concepts

  • Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to write concise technical documentation

CaptureAge is a company that grew out of the Age of Empires community and is now partnered with Xbox Game Studios to provide game development services in AAA titles like Age of Empires II and Age of Empires IV. Fully Remote – Location / Time Zones

We are a fully remote company with team members in 20+ countries across many time zones. We prefer team members who fit within broadly American/African/European time zones (UTC-8 to UTC+3) but we are open to applications from anywhere.

Hours/Time Management

We have a flexible approach to time-management, and we believe in giving team members the opportunity to control their own schedules. We'd like to see a world in which work can fit around your life, not the other way around! In practice this means a few pre-agreed sync points a week, with the rest of your working time entirely up to you – we do not have mandatory core hours.
