The Senior Site Reliability Manager leads a team of Software and Systems Engineers, managing the availability and performance of critical services. Responsibilities include building automation to prevent problems, establishing credibility through technical execution, driving projects, and planning/executing technical projects. The role also involves developing team strategy, building relationships with internal teams, managing on-call rotations, collaborating with other engineering teams, and developing engineering talent through mentoring and coaching. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, software development, and people management, with a focus on ensuring Google's services remain highly reliable and performant.
Must have:
- 8+ years experience with data structures/algorithms
- 5+ years managing people & software development
- 4+ years leading projects
- 3+ years designing/troubleshooting distributed systems
- Team leadership & project execution
- Automation and problem prevention
Good to have:
- Mobile development experience
- Experience with application deployment
- Unix/Linux systems expertise
- IP networking knowledge
- Global scale distributed systems experience
- Experience recruiting and managing managers

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
- 5 years of experience in managing people and with software development in one or more programming languages, and 4 years of experience in leading projects.
- 3 years of experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with mobile development, application deployment with the knowledge of coding, networking, operating systems and storage.
- Experience in algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design with Unix/Linux systems, IP networking, performance and application issues.
- Experience in problem-solving and analyzing global scale distributed systems.
- Experience in recruiting, managing managers and overseeing a team of engineers on projects.
- Excellent management and communication skills.

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Google's services—both our internally critical and our externally-visible systems—have reliability, uptime appropriate to users' needs and a fast rate of improvement. Additionally SRE’s will keep an ever-watchful eye on our systems capacity and performance.Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. On the SRE team, you’ll have the opportunity to manage the complex challenges of scale which are unique to Google, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis and large-scale system design.

Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Software and Systems Engineers, including iteration and task planning. Manage end-to-end availability and performance of mission critical services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence.
- Lead and establish credibility with the quality of the teams technical execution. Drive technical projects and provide leadership in a changing environment. Take responsibility for the overall planning, execution and success of technical projects.
- Develop goals and strategy for the team. Build relationships and influence internal customers and partner teams. Manage on-call rotations across continents.
- Work with other Engineering teams to reuse and understand existing frameworks. Develop and grow engineering talent through effective mentoring, coaching, succession planning and strategies in a fast growth economic environment.
