Job Description

As a Staff Battery Test Engineer at Wisk, you will design, assemble, and commission test assets for the next-generation Electrical VTOL aircraft Energy Storage and Power Systems (ESPS). Your responsibilities include leading battery component and system-level test campaigns, troubleshooting electrical and software issues, developing test automation scripts, and working closely with a cross-functional team. You will design mechanical and electrical test fixtures, select and integrate test equipment, and write test specifications and procedures. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
Must have:
  • Lead battery component and system-level test campaigns
  • Use schematics and datasheets of electrical components
  • Develop test automation scripts on Python and/or LabVIEW
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and software issues
  • Integrate off-the-shelf test equipment into setups
  • Experience with I2C, SPI, isoSPI and/or RS-485 protocols
  • Hands-on experience designing test assets
Good to have:
  • Proficiency with CAD software
  • Ability to interpret or create engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with aviation test standards
  • Hands on experience with machine shop equipment

We are looking for a Staff Battery Test Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for designing, assembling, and commissioning test assets of our next generation Electrical VTOL aircraft Energy Storage and Power Systems (ESPS).  

Due to the nature of the work required for this position, this is an onsite opportunity. You will be required to work from our Mountain View and Fremont offices. 

What you will do:

    • Lead the development and implementation of battery component and system level test campaigns, including battery electrical performance, manufacturing end-of-line, and integration testing
    • Use schematics and datasheets of electrical components and hardware on the battery pack to troubleshoot DUT and test assets
    • Develop test automation scripts and Graphical User Interface (GUI) on Python and/or LabVIEW
    • Develop wiring diagrams and create harness drawings
    • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and software issues on the test assets
    • Automate test execution, data collection and post-processing to increase test cadence and reporting, ease operation and safety
    • Work closely with a cross functional team to develop test requirements and test plans 
    • Design mechanical and electrical test fixtures used for PCBA and component level power electronics and battery testing
    • Select and integrate test equipment including and not limited to communication adapters, battery cyclers, transducers and data acquisition devices into test assets
    • Write test specifications, operation manuals, troubleshooting/rework procedures and test procedures

Requirements:

    • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related engineering discipline 
    • 8+ years of relevant work experience
    • Knowledge of batteries, battery management systems and/or power electronics
    • Experience working with high voltage battery systems 
    • Experience interpreting PCB Schematics, Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and component datasheets 
    • Proficiency with LabVIEW and/or Python 
    • Experience integrating off-the-shelf test equipment (power supplies, electronic loads, battery cyclers, oscilloscope, logic analyzer etc.) and DAQs into test setups
    • Experience working with I2C, SPI, isoSPI and/or RS-485 protocols
    • Experience with data acquisition devices (NI, Keysight, LabJack, Dewesoft) and transducers
    • Hands-on experience designing and assembling tests assets or stations from scratch for entirely new hardware
    • Strong interpersonal, communication skills and a team player
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment

Desired:

    • Proficiency with CAD software (NX preferred)
    • Can interpret or create engineering drawings
    • Familiarity with aviation test standards including DO-311, DO-160 and MIL-810
    • Hands on experience with machine shop equipment
    • Experience with executing abuse tests on Li-ion batteries
    • Experience with using battery cyclers
    • Experience with working with facility upgrades

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $153,408 - $180,480 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
