Respawn Entertainment is looking for a Technical Designer Intern to join us in expanding the Apex Legends-Events team at our growing location in Madison, Wisconsin. Reporting to the Game Design Director, you will work in a team to help prototype and refine gameplay features in Apex Legends.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with designers, engineers and other creative to develop the vision and improve compelling gameplay systems
  • Write functional script that aligns with technical best practices
  • Align and collaborate with multiple disciplines to promote the vision of gameplay features.
  • Improve on features based on playtesting, design requirements, and creative direction

Requirements:

  • Computer science fundamentals and scripting experience (Lua, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • An interest & passion in creating gameplay systems, mechanics and game modes
  • A strong attention to detail and an eye for polish
  • A collaborative and inclusive attitude, ask questions, learn and adapt
  • Communicate design ideas and requirements to non-designers
  • Experience with a game engine or framework (Unreal, Unity, Godot, SDL, etc.)
  • Drive to learn and comprehend the game design process, specifically game mechanics and design theory

Nice To Have:

  • Experience with C++
  • Portfolio of game projects
  • Interest and passion working in a multiplayer live service environment
  • Familiarity with the Battle Royale genre
